According to Variety magazine, Jimmy Fallon, host of The Tonight Show, comedian and former SNL cast member, is scheduled to host the Golden Globes in 2017. This will be a first for Fallon, who will be taking the baton from 2016 Golden Globes host Ricky Gervais. NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt announced the news and and said, “We’re thrilled to announce Jimmy as host of ‘The 74th Annual Golden Globes.'”
“This is the most spontaneous and uninhibited award show on television, and Jimmy’s playful, disarming comedic brilliance makes him the ideal host to enhance and elevate the sense of fun and irreverence that’s made the Golden Globes one of the premier events of the entire broadcast year.”
Lorenzo Soria, President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, shared Greenblatt’s enthusiasm, saying that Fallon is extremely talented and they couldn’t be “more excited” that he will be hosting the Golden Globes in 2017.
“His charm, wit and incredible spontaneity will play exceedingly well both to everyone at the show as well as the millions watching at home from around the world.”
Allen Shapiro, CEO of Dick Clark productions, which produces the annual awards show, also supports Fallon as the 2017 host.
“Jimmy Fallon’s brand of comedy will continue the tradition of cutting-edge excitement viewers have come to expect from the host of the Golden Globes.”
Fans are also excited that the comedian will be hosting the Golden Globes as well, and have posted their support on social media. However, no one can be more happier that he is hosting the award show than Fallon himself, who has also expressed his thanks and excitement on social media and even poked fun at Donald Trump while he was at it.

Jimmy Fallon has hosted The Tonight Show since 2014 when he took the position that was last filled by Jay Leno. The late-night talk show started in the late 1950s as a news-style talk show beginning with Steve Allen and Jack Paar as hosts. The show gained popularity when Johnny Carson took over in 1962 and remained the host for thirty years. At that time, the show was called The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. After Carson retired in 1992, the show was taken over by Jay Leno until 2014, with Conan O’Brien briefly hosting the show from 2009 until 2010.
While Fallon has hosted The Tonight Show for about three years, his comedic talents have gained fans for him since he was a regular on Saturday Night Live. As mentioned before, Jimmy’s “charm, wit and spontaneity” have brought the comedian a long way. Fallon was an SNL cast member from 1998 to 2004, and co-hosted the SNL Weekend Update, which made him a fan favorite. Soon after leaving SNL, Fallon starred in films such as Taxi and Fever Pitch. In 2009, he was asked to host Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, which followed The Tonight Show. Fallon’s penchant for music and games on that show followed him when he became host of The Tonight Show in 2014. Fan favorites include his “lip sync battles,” “truth or dare” and other celebrity games that he plays with guests on The Tonight Show.
Fallon’s latest tweet could mean a surprise for fans.

Apparently, there will be a contest or some way for fans to be part of the awards show, but Fallon didn’t elaborate. Whatever Jimmy Fallon has in store when he hosts the Golden Globes in January will most likely be epic, just as his nightly episodes of The Tonight Show are. The next thing we have to look forward to is who will be nominated. Be sure to check out the nominations, which will be announced this year on Monday, December 12.
