Game of Thrones has no trouble killing off major characters, which in turn brings about big cast changes for the show. There’s now speculation that Game of Thrones Season 7 could see another major character in the show killed off: Sansa Stark, played by Sophie Turner. That’s all because the British actress has unveiled a new look, complete with golden blonde hair. However, fans of Game of Thrones will be more than aware that Sansa Stark’s character doesn’t have blonde hair in the hit HBO fantasy drama.
According to the Express, Sophie Turner took to Instagram to unveil her new look, which appears to take some inspiration from Game of Thrones character Daenerys Targaryen, played by Emilia Clarke. However, fans quickly pointed out one key problem with Sophie Turner’s new look, and that’s how she’ll manage to play Sansa Stark with golden blonde hair, leading many to assume that Turner’s character won’t be in the next season of Game of Thrones or is leaving the show altogether.
Game of Thrones is no stranger to being brutal when it comes to casting. In fact, a large part of Game of Thrones‘ success comes from its ability to kill off any character at any time. At the same time, characters are often excluded from entire seasons, much like Isaac Hempstead Wright’s Bran Stark was in Season 5 of the show.
However, according to Digital Spy, Sophie Turner’s makeover isn’t necessarily bad news for her Game of Thrones character. In fact, filming of Game of Thrones Season 7 isn’t due to start for another few months because of delays in the show’s release schedule next year. With that in mind, there’s a good chance that Sophie Turner is just using the show’s break as an opportunity to try out a new hairstyle, with plans to revert back when filming of Game of Thrones Season 7 commences.
RELATED STORIES ON INQUISITR:
With the aforementioned taken into consideration, fans of Game of Thrones will likely be waiting with bated breath to see if the actress changes her hair back to its natural color before filming of Game of Thrones Season 7 commences. If she doesn’t, then it could very well spell the end of Sansa Stark’s character in the HBO show.
Alongside Game of Thrones, Sophie Turner has something of a busy schedule. The 20-year-old actress appeared in X-Men: Apocalypse when it hit cinemas earlier this year, alongside some of the biggest names in Hollywood, including James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Jennifer Lawrence. What’s more, she’s set to appear in the upcoming release of Alone. However, Turner still has to dedicate a lot of time to filming Game of Thrones, which doesn’t leave her with an awful lot of time to dedicate to other projects.
Game of Thrones Season 7 is set to air in the summer of 2017, later than the series’ usual spring release. However, Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have explained that they need more time in order to shoot the upcoming season, which will come in at seven episodes, shorter than the show’s typical ten-episode run. HBO has further confirmed that Game of Thrones‘ final season will air in 2018, bringing the series to a close. However, there’s still speculation around a potential spinoff that could keep the Game of Thrones universe alive.
