Toys ‘R’ Us Unveils Their Top Toy List For 2012

With the holiday season looming on the horizon, Christmas lists are starting to come together. In order to give parents a heads up on what’s hot this year, Toys “R” Us has unveiled their Top Toy list for 2012. According to The Augusta Chronicle, Hasbro’s Furby rests towards the top of the heap, suggesting that the animatronic pet is going to be a pretty hot commodity this holiday season. It feels like the mid-90s all over again.

Also making an appearance on the Toys “R” Us list are the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a toy that is currently being described as retro. For fans of the series during its original run, that description isn’t designed to make you feel young. The top gift for TMNT fans is the Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Secret Sewer Lair Playset, an item that’s going to set you back about $120. Cowabunga, indeed.

Tina Benitez-Eves, an editor who covers the toy industry for Gifts and Decorative Accessories magazine, recently told USA Today that this could be one of the best years for toys in quite some time. “For consumers, finding that sweet price point is always going to be difficult, but even with this up and down economy, it’s possible that consumers may spend more this year,” she explained.

Finding that right price point is going to be very important, especially when it comes to this year’s hot electronics and gadgets. Hasbro’s Furby, for example, retails for around $59.99, while LeapFrog’s LeapPad2 Explorer is priced at $99.99. When you have multiple gifts to buy, these items can add up quickly.

If you’re worried about getting your hands on these popular gifts, Toys “R” Us is there to help you out. The company is introducing a new reservation program, which will run through the end of October. In order to guarantee that the item you need will find its way under your Christmas tree, you can reserve the gift by putting down 20 percent of the retail price. The service is reportedly similar to most layaway programs.
