‘The Walking Dead’ Season 7 News: Norman Reedus Describes Grief

The Walking Dead Season 7 is about to come down on fans like a hurricane on October 23. But what fans need to realize is that even the actors are feeling the grief of losing someone that they care about so much, whether it be the actor or the character. Norman Reedus is among that list of actors that has come to see his co-stars as family, and they are all feeling the pain after learning who got killed by Negan’s bat.

Season 6 of The Walking Dead will feature the death of that character in the very first episode, and there is no doubt that many fans will be sad for days to come, at least that is what Norman Reedus describes. He recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about his feelings on the death of one of his character friends and seems to have been quite sad with the news when he got it.

But Norman Reedus also sees the bigger picture and just how that death has transformed the world of The Walking Dead.

“It’s a complete change of power. Our whole world has been turned upside down, and that group of people have been fighting to have their feet firmly on the ground and have some sort of direction to live in and some sort of code to live by and moral compass, and they thought they were doing it okay, you know?” Norman Reedus told Entertainment Weekly. “It was hard, and they had to go through things all the time, but they were on a path, and now that path has been ripped from their feet, and things that they believe in are completely different now. The world is completely turned upside down.”

Being a major star on The Walking Dead seems like it will take a toll on any actor who has played the part with such incredible skill like Norman Reedus has portrayed Daryl Dixon. That also goes to show that even the comic version of The Walking Dead is not enough to power the AMC show alone. Dixon was never a character in the comic book, so his portrayal of Daryl Dixon is all original and gives The Walking Dead even more credibility in terms of ratings power.

But that also means that Norman Reedus and his co-stars have become a tight family while acting on The Walking Dead every season. So when one of them gets killed off, it is a bit of an emotional departure for the actors as well as the characters, which may spill over on the screen.

“It affects the group completely differently. You know, everyone, it affects them differently,” Norman Reedus said. “Some relinquish power. Some accept it. Some fight it. There are people questioning it. There are people pointing their fingers. There are people blaming themselves.”

That makes sense considering The Walking Dead core group has been together for quite a while. Although there are only five characters left since they were all united on the hilltop back in Season 1 of The Walking Dead, they have come to know each other as well as others that were picked up on the way as a close family, in an untraditional sense. But The Walking Dead is anything but traditional.

“Other things happen that completely destroy people. The group is completely broken apart at this point,” Norman Reedus said. “Negan has come in and completely shaken up everything. Loyalties are broken, belief in one another, belief in ourselves. Each individual is completely broken, and they don’t all handle it the exact same way.”

The Walking Dead returns to AMC on October 23 this year.
