Shakira has had a handful of significant announcements lately, though among the persistent rumors of a sextape floating around out there or a recent announcement for a new judging gig, this one might be the most important. Shakira has announced that she is pregnant.
Just one day after NBC’s announcement that Shakira would be temporarily replacing Christina Aguilera as a judge and coach on the popular music program The Voice, the hip-shaking singer had an announcement of her own: That she was expecting her first child with her soccer star boyfriend, Gerard Pique.
“As some of you may know, Gerard and I are very happy awaiting the arrival of our first baby!” she announced on her website Wednesday. “At this time we have decided to give priority to this unique moment in our lives and postpone all the promotional activities planned over the next few days.”
Unfortunately, this means that the Colombian songstress will miss Friday’s iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, reports MSN.
Baby speculation has actually been swirling around 35-year-old Shakira and her 25-year-old boyfriend for months, with celebrity gossip sites reporting that she is expecting a baby boy as early as 2013. Largely media-shy when it comes to her personal life, Shakira confirmed her romance with Pique back in March of 2011 on Facebook, when she referred to the Spanish native and FC Barcelona player as her “sunshine.” She had previously called it quits with Antonio de La Rua after ten years together.
This will be the couple’s first child.
Congratulations on the baby news, Shakira!
