Britney Spears Takes Sides In Taylor Swift & Katy Perry Feud: Is She Throwing Serious Shade?

Britney Spears is wading in on Taylor Swift and Katy Perry’s feud, and fans are speculating that she’s also throwing some pretty serious shade at both pop stars in the process.

Britney appeared to take sides when asked about Swift and Perry’s drama in a rare interview with Australia’s KISS 1065’s Kyle and Jackie O radio show on August 1, where she was asked if she’d rather be on a long-haul flight with Katy or Taylor.

After being asked whose company she’d rather have on a 24-hour flight, Spears replied, “I don’t know! I don’t know, that’s hard. They’re both so cool, I don’t know.”

But despite Britney admitting that she thinks both Perry and Swift are “so cool,” things then appeared to take a pretty shady turn when it came to Spears confessing which of the twosome she’d prefer to spend time with.

“I’ve briefly met Katy Perry at the Smurfs movie premiere,” Britney said, recalling her interaction with Katy back in 2013 Los Angeles premiere of the movie Smurfs 2. “Maybe because I’ve met Katy Perry I would say Taylor Swift, because I’ve never met her before,” Spears then lamented.

Only, Britney has met Taylor before on at least two different occasions.

Fans were quick to point out Spears’ omission on social media, taking to Twitter to post photos of Britney and Taylor together at two separate events.

“If @britneyspears never met @taylorswift13, how does she explain these pictures?” Twitter user @jgomez89 tweeted out in reply to Britney’s reply, including a photo of Spears and Swift posing together at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards and a snap of what appears to be a pre-fame Taylor meeting Britney a number of years ago.

But while Britney’s remarks about never having met Swift could have been nothing more than an innocent slip of the tongue, that didn’t stop fans from suggesting that Spears could have been throwing a whole lot of shade at both Taylor and Katy with her candid radio admission.

“Snake Taylor is not even Relevant enough for Britney to remember,” Twitter user @_Monipoo tweeted out of Britney’s remarks, and @Mickeyfreaktv wrote on the social media site in regards to Spears’ comments, “Britney didn’t remember that she met Taylor Swift lol So much shade!”

“Britney not only threw shade at Katy, not wanting to fly [with] her, but she also said she hasn’t met Taylor when she has,” @godneybjs then summarised of the radio interview, suggesting that Spears put both Taylor and Katy on blast.

Other fans even poked a little more fun at Taylor, joking that she and Britney actually performed together at the 2001 VMA Awards when Spears infamously took to the stage to perform her hit “I’m A Slave 4 U” with a snake wrapped around her shoulders.

“Britney Spears says she never met Taylor Swift. I think she’s forgetting this VMA Performance they did together,” Twitter user @Mikey_Sul wrote on the social media site alongside a screen shot of Britney’s comments and a photo of her iconic 2001 performance, appearing to refer to Swift as a snake.

Other fans also speculated that Spears’ admission was her way of throwing a little shade a la Mariah Carey, who once infamously replied “I don’t know her” when asked about her feelings on Jennifer Lopez.

“Mariah Carey iconic ‘I don’t know her,'” Twitter user @LG5Facts tweeted, “Britney Spears iconic ‘I don’t know Taylor swift.'”

“Britney claims she has never met Taylor. Is this the new ‘I don’t know her?!'” @AgentTonic added.
