Tom Hiddleston Wins Best Butt Award, But Taylor Swift Prevents Him From Scoring Underwear Ad Campaign

Tom Hiddleston officially has an award-winning butt, but the British’s actor’s booty will not be appearing in Armani underwear ads. According to recent reports, the Italian fashion brand was interested in hiring Hiddleston to model its briefs, but he was taken out of consideration for the gig after his relationship with Taylor Swift turned him into a tabloid darling.

According to Cosmopolitan, Tom Hiddleston won the 2016 “Rear of the Year” award after baring his butt in the BBC miniseries The Night Manager. The Rear of the Year competition pits British celebrities’ butts against each other in a contest to see whose fanny has the most fans. Posterior enthusiasts can vote for their favorite male and female celebrity buns on the Rear of the Year website, which was “flooded” with votes for Hiddleston this year. Hollyoaks star Jennifer Metcalfe was the female celebrity who got to take home a crystal 2016 Rear of the Year trophy.

If the U.K. was as squeamish about TV nudity as America is, Hiddleston’s chances of winning Rear of the Year would have decreased dramatically; The Night Manager scene starring Tom Hiddleston’s bare bottom was cut when AMC aired the miniseries in America. Hiddleston told W Magazine that he was surprised by the network’s decision to delete his bare derrière.

“I’m here to tell you that my butt is not dangerous,” Hiddleston said.

In fact, Tom Hiddleston’s posterior is so popular that Armani execs wanted it to star in ads for the brand’s winter underwear collection. However, according to the Mirror, they changed their minds about hiring Tom Hiddleston as a model when he started dating Taylor Swift. The Kong: Skull Island star would have replaced Taylor’s ex, Calvin Harris, as the face and body of the brand.

“Obviously with Tom now being Taylor’s other half and the Calvin past deal, it would generate huge media coverage and headlines,” an industry insider revealed. “But Armani see themselves as classier than that and think that a rising sports star may suit their current needs better. Armani would hate to be seen as getting PR for their brand by riding on Taylor Swift’s coat tails, so Tom will not get the job.”

In other words, Armani execs feared that it would look like an act of desperation or a shameless publicity stunt if they hired Hiddleston, which would result in their brand getting its own chapter in the tabloid romance novel that is Hiddleswift. The Mirror source also said that Hiddleston might be “too old” to appeal to the consumers that Armani is targeting.

Hiddlestoners might be sad that they won’t get to see their beloved #Hiddlesbum in a pair of Armani undies anytime soon, but they may get to see more of the actor’s bare butt cheeks. While discussing his Crimson Peak sex scene with E! News, Tom Hiddleston expressed his belief that male actors don’t strip down enough. He wants to change this.

“It’s so often in movies that women are more naked than men and that’s unfair,” Hiddleston said. “We wanted to sort of redress the balance.”

But will Taylor Swift be okay with her boyfriend trying to “redress the balance” by getting undressed on-screen more often? This remains to be seen, but it seems as though Taylor has Tom wrapped around her little finger. According to the Daily Mail, Tom looked “giddy with pride” Wednesday night during a dinner date with his girlfriend in Santa Monica. He was photographed laughing and holding hands with a giggly Taylor Swift, and the couple seemed completely oblivious to the paparazzi swarming around them.

During a Comic-Con panel, Tom Hiddleston explained that attention his relationship with Taylor Swift gets doesn’t bother him because he knows he’s being “authentic.”

“Everything you do you have to make sure you truly believe in it and as long as you know that, it doesn’t matter what anyone else says about it because the nature of being a public figure is that everyone will have an opinion about anything you do, and as long as you know why you’ve done something and you’ve committed to it with authenticity then you’re OK.”

In other words, Tom Hiddleston is able to simply “shake it off” whenever his relationship with Taylor Swift gets negative attention, so perhaps the Armani snub won’t sting too much.
