Barbra Streisand asked Wolverine star Hugh Jackman to sing a lovely duet with her, titled “Any Moment Now,” on her new album, Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway. Originally, the romantic and touching song came from the Broadway musical Smile. It requires a lot of emotional inflection in the voices of the singers.
Hugh Jackman is usually thought of as a really macho, tough, athletic kind of guy. He plays Wolverine in the X-Men movie series and the Wolverine movies as well, which is set to become a trilogy as Wolverine 3 is currently in the works.
The Wolverine star recently posted a video of himself doing clap pushups, while working out in preparation for his starring role. Fans could hardly blame him for showing off a little either according to Street Rant. Clap pushups are incredibly difficult, requiring both great upper body strength and a lot of coordination. These pushups show this actor is in great shape, but who knew he could sing so beautifully?
Barbra Streisand knew obviously. She thought of him right away for this special song, according to Entertainment Weekly. Ms. Streisand explained that the song requires not only a singer but also a great actor. So, at least in her mind, no one would do but Hugh.
“‘Any Moment Now’ was the first song I chose for this album. I heard the song and I thought, this is a way for me to use actors who act and sing with Broadway material. So the first person I thought of was Hugh Jackman.”
Hugh Jackman and his wife were both absolutely stunned by the invitation for Hugh to sing with Streisand. His wife is a huge Barbra Streisand fan and encouraged Hugh to take that opportunity. Of course, Mr. Jackman would have never turned Barbra down anyway, as Jackman told Entertainment Weekly.
“I was like, ‘I don’t know how on earth this has happened, But [my wife] said, ‘You’re doing it!’ And I said, ‘Of course I’m doing it!'”
Hugh Jackman is definitely one of the most well-rounded, multi-talented guys around. How many people can act, sing, and do clap pushups? Ms. Streisand expressed it this way according to Just Jarred.
“He could be a werewolf or whatever he is, Wolverine? And yet he is a wonderful actor who sings great.”
Mr. Jackman, of course, would have to do some schedule juggling to tour with Streisand. Apparently, being multi-talented also means being always in demand. He’s currently preparing for the third Wolverine film. This movie will probably be the last in a Wolverine trilogy. Wolverine 3 is slated for theaters March 3, 2017, according to Uproxx. Fans can only hope time management is also one of Jackman’s strongest skills.
The Hugh Jackman and Barbra Streisand duet promotions, coupled with making Wolverine 3 and staying in perfect shape, even at age 47, will make Jackman’s schedule tight.
