Montel Williams Gets Detained At Airport Over Medical Marijuana

Montel Williams had to deal with something pretty surprising today as he was detained at the airport for having medical marijuana on him. Montel didn’t have all of the proper paperwork with him to prove it was medical, and it held him up a bit. Us Weekly Magazine shared the news about what happened to Montel Williams. This all happened in Frankfurt, Germany.

Williams’ rep explained what went down exactly at the airport. Montel was with his wife, Tara Fowler, when he got detained. Montel was very lucky that the entire thing lasted less than an hour, and he was able to go pretty quick. Montel had the medical marijuana in his carry-on bag. It was to help treat his multiple sclerosis.

Jon Franks, the rep that works for Montel Williams, shared all of the details of how this went down. It sounds like Montel was pretty lucky and it could have been a lot worse for him.

“Unfortunately this is the reality faced by medical marijuana patients every day all over the world. Today, Montel reaffirms his commitment to fighting for sensible medical marijuana policies across the world and to fighting the stigma he and so many other seriously ill Americans face every day for simply following the advice of their doctor.”

Montel Williams has been dealing with this disease since 1999, but a lot of people didn’t even realize there was anything wrong with him at all. Montel has done a great job of still working and not showing his struggle daily. He shared the details back in 1999 when he found out what was wrong with him.

“We don’t know how long I’ve had it for, but I’ve been misdiagnosed for 10 years. There have been some mornings when I thought it would be better if I stayed in bed. This disease is not going to stop me.”

Obviously, the medical marijuana helps Montel out, but he is also on a very strict diet. He drinks a lot of fruit in the way of a smoothies instead of eating all of the time. This seems to help him out. Every single day he works out as well to help take care of himself.

Montel Williams hasn’t been shy about the fact that he is all for medical marijuana and thinks it is something that everyone should have available to them. Multiple Sclerosis News Today shared a while back that Montel has joined the board of KIND Financial, a technology solutions company, as a key advisor in efforts to support and expand the drug’s use. At the time, David Dinenberg, KIND Financial’s chief executive officer, shared the news and how excited they were to have him on the board.

“Montel Williams has become one of the most high profile medical cannabis advocates in the country and he is also active in raising money for a variety of charitable organizations relating to veterans issues and multiple sclerosis, which he was diagnosed with in 1999. We are proud to have Montel on board. From the first time we spoke, it was clear that we share a similar vision that our business model holds the key to legalization — regulation, compliance and transparency.”

Montel Williams is not afraid to admit that he uses medical marijuana or thinks that more people should have this option. Luckily, he was able to get out of the airport really quick, and it sounds like Montel is doing just fine.
