Charlie Sheen has for many years made headlines for his hard drinking, affinity for call girls, and legendary drug use — a dangerous combination health-wise. And for him, the result was an unfortunate HIV infection that dealt a heavy blow to his social life and bank account, with people close to him taking the opportunity to blackmail him.
Funds extorted from him ran into millions, according to his statement last year, when he chose to come out with the news to put an end to the endless torture. This was via an interview with Today. The following was his exact statement in regard to this.
“I have to put a stop to this onslaught, this barrage of attacks and of sub-truths and very harmful and mercurial stories that are about me, threatening the health of so many others that couldn’t be further from the truth… What people forget is that that’s money they’re taking from my children. I trusted them and they were deep in my inner circle, and I thought they could be helpful. My trust turned to their treason.”
However, he also said that he now had the chance to better himself as well as help other people in the same situation, in regard to coping with the stigma. Both his ex-wives Brooke Mueller and Denise Richards were informed about the crushing HIV diagnosis.
Another person who apparently also knew (not mentioned in the interview) was Lenny Dykstra, a Mets center fielder who retired from baseball in 1996 and became a millionaire entrepreneur. He fell on hard times in following years after making a string of bad business decisions. Lenny now moonlights as a gigolo according to his revelation on the Howard Stern Show.
In his book, House of Nails: A Memoir of Life on the Edge, published a few months ago, he spoke about the crazy drug- and sex-fueled life he lived a few years ago, and the time he helped save Charlie Sheen from committing suicide. He talks about getting a phone call from Scottine Rossi, then Charlie’s fiancée, in 2014. She was apparently crying and told him that Charlie Sheen had been holed up in his room for nine days straight smoking crack, and asked him to go over and talk him out of it.
On reaching Charlie Sheen’s residence, Scottine directed him to his master bedroom which was hidden behind a bookcase, and a code was needed to get in. This is what followed as highlighted by the New York Post.
After keying in the right code, he described Charlie Sheen’s master bedroom as being exquisitely furnished, telling him, “Charlie, I have to admit, if you’re going to smoke crack, this has to be the best crack room on the planet!”
Lenny, however, proceeded to give him a reality check, reminding him that he had to be sober in the next few days for Anger Management. He also flushed away the drugs Charlie had and gave him some Valium to help him sleep.
He described his condition as “dark” for the next four days, and when he decided to come downstairs, the Two And A Half Men star started drinking uncontrollably. This is when Lenny asked what he was doing, as it seemed like he was trying to commit suicide, to which Charlie responded, “I do.” Charlie then said that he was alright, but then dropped the bombshell, “I got the HIV.”
