‘The Vampire Diaries’ Wants Nina Dobrev To Return For Series Finale

Since The Vampire Diaries announced Season 8 would be the last, there have been a lot of “will she, won’t she” debates over Nina Dobrev. Mixed reports don’t make it easy to know if she will come back to the show, even just for the series finale.

Rumors started just after The Vampire Diaries Season 8 was confirmed by the CW. There were many speculations that it would be the last after Kat Graham said she was leaving and Ian Somerhalder said they had a year to finish telling the story. Fans also heard that Dobrev was going to come back, probably to reprise her role of Elena Gilbert, at least for the series finale.

Julie Plec certainly wants to see the actress to return to the show. When Dobrev left at the end of Season 6, a “friendship promise” had been made. There was the idea that Dobrev would come back at the very end, unless the show went on longer than expected. Since her departure, fans turned away from the show in droves, and it led to speculation that The Vampire Diaries Season 7 would be the end. There was no debate for some that Season 8 would be the last after it was confirmed.

After the announcement of the end, fans wanted to know if the actress would come back. Plec confirmed that she definitely wants to see the promise fulfilled, and she is not the only one. The Vampire Diaries cast wants to see her come back to finish off the story. Zach Roerig believes the series wouldn’t be what it is now without her, J-14 reports.

Now it appears that Dobrev is going back on her promise. There are reports circulating that she is too busy concentrating on her movie career to come back to the show, even just for a cameo at the very end.

Fans will certainly not be happy if that is the case. They were counting on her coming back at the very end after numerous reports saying that it would definitely happen. The Vampire Diaries fans will feel like she has betrayed their trust by negating this deal.

With all that being said, there is still no confirmation either way. The fans and the cast members do want her to come back, and now the ball is completely in her court.

It would be a good way to round out the series with Elena returning. Damon would get closure at the very end, and it would be that final link back to Season 1. Plec had already promised that Season 8 would be connected to Season 1. The premiere is even titled “Hello, Brother,” as a link to that iconic line from the whole show. Which fan doesn’t hear Ian Somerhalder’s voice speaking that line?

There is no pressure from the cast or crew for the actress to return, but she may feel pressure from the fans. Many of them just want to see Damon and Elena end up together and are interested to see what that means for Bonnie. Elena was placed in a coma and linked to Bonnie’s life. Elena will only wake up when Bonnie dies, and she doesn’t expect that to happen for 60 years.

The writers may be able to find a way around this. The Inquisitr has previously reported that Kai may come back to the show, and this could allow him to break the spell and allow Elena to come back. Chris Wood has signed on for CW’s Supergirl Season 2, but that doesn’t stop him from coming back for an episode or two, does it?

The Vampire Diaries Season 8 premieres on October 21 on the CW. Do you want Elena to return, because the cast certainly does.
