Ewan McGregor Joins Meryl Streep In August Osage County Film

According to Hollywood Reporter, Star Wars actor Ewan McGregor has signed up for the adaptation of the award-winning play August Osage County. The movie, which is already gaining great press with its star studded cast features Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Juliette Lewis, Abigail Breslin, Dermot Mulroney, and Benedict Cumberbatch.

McGregor is said to play the estranged husband of Julia Roberts’ character, and Meryl Streep will of course be the mother-in-law that you don’t piss off. The film, which is based on a 2008 stage play by Tracy Letts documents a dysfunctional family who are brought together at their childhood home followed by a crisis in the family. Sounds like a familiar plot, but there hasn’t been such a versatile cast in some time.

The film is getting so much buzz that it already has Oscar written all over it and it hasn’t even gone into production yet. August: Osage County is said to begin shooting in Oklahoma later in the month and will be directed by John Wells, who has directed his fair share on projects like “ER”, and “Shameless”. Tossing their name in the ring is George Clooney who has signed on to be one of the film’s producers.

Ewan McGregor is having a great year. Not only has McGregor roped himself in a good role in August: Osage County, but he will also be seen in the action flick, The Impossible, which is based on a family’s experience after the 2004 Indian tsunami. He recently completed work on Jack The Giant Killer, which is due out next March.

In addition to Letts writing the play he has also lent his hand to the screen adaptation as well, which is usually unheard of in the industry.
