Mariah Carey Talks Reality Show, Divorce From Nick Cannon, And Future, Stuns On ‘Complex’

Mariah Carey has experienced massive success over the years as a diva songstress, and the past year has proven that the star can stay at the top even when she’s faced with challenging times. Carey recently became engaged to her billionaire beau after experiencing a difficult time following her separation from Nick Cannon. The two have managed to stay amicable for the sake of their two children.

Carey is still showing the world she’s still got it as she covers the latest issue of Complex looking absolutely stunning. The star gave the publication a candid interview within which she shares about her upcoming reality show and her relationship with James Packer. The diva also reflects on her separation from Cannon.

When it comes to her stint on television, and camera crews following her for Mariah’s World, Carey admits it took a little getting used to. Billboard shares the star’s words.

“I’ve become more comfortable with it. In the beginning I was like, ‘Fine, we can document the tour, we can show what’s happening behind the scenes, with the singers, the dancers, the this, the that. You can see me when I’m on stage, I’ll talk—blah blah blah.’ But what I started to realize is that my best moments are off the cuff.”

The singer has experienced happiness in love and career as of late. Her billionaire beau James Packer seems to be the perfect fit for Carey even though the two seem quite different. While Carey prefers the spotlight, Packer is happy to stand out of the lime light and let her be the star. It’s clear that James will always be able to keep the star in the lap of luxury, just as she likes, and Mariah shares that the two have an understanding and manage to balance work and love, regardless of their busy schedules.

“I don’t expect him to be at every little thing that I do, and vice versa. He’s got a lot of stuff on his plate and so do I. There’s a mutual understanding… He’s a private businessman and there are a lot of things with his companies that I just can’t talk about. It’s just not good for me to do.”

Mariah also reflected on her split from America’s Got Talent host Nick Cannon, who she shares two little ones with, Moroccan and Monroe, both 5. Mariah admits to it not being the way she saw their relationship going and wishes she hadn’t repeated the past with a second divorce, but adds that life happens.

“I never thought I would either, but I never thought I would have babies with someone and then get divorced. Like, ‘Oh, great job. Repeat your past.’… But life happens and it was supposed to happen. It’s fine. For [my children], I wish it hadn’t happened that way. For me, it was…[singing Johnny Mathis and Deniece Williams’ “Too Much, Too Little, Too Late”] Guess it’s over. Call it a day.”

Although it was likely a very difficult situation for the former couple, they have carried on and continued to be in one another’s lives, ensuring to spend holidays together with their children. Cannon has shared how much he respects Mariah, but has admitted that only getting “visitation” with his two children is tough to take. In Touch Weekly relays the star’s words about the issue when he was on the Howard Stern Show.

“It’s kind of f–ked up when time with your kids is considered visitation,” he said on The Howard Stern Show. “It’s unfair to the fathers in the situation. I’m just keeping it real… That’s pain, right there.”
