Old-Fashioned Ed Hartwell Wanted Spoiled Keshia Knight Pulliam To Be More Submissive
The unexpected news that former NFL player Ed Hartwell secretly filed for divorce from his new bride, Keshia Knight Pulliam, has heads shaking and people wondering what kind of man leaves his pregnant wife, especially when it is none other than “Rudy” from The Cosby Show? While their relationship came out of nowhere and their courtship was lightning fast, the separation news was still surprising and a bit concerning considering the timing — a week after she announced via Instagram that the couple is expecting a baby girl in January.
According to People, the reasons the former linebacker filed papers in Fulton County, Georgia, Tuesday morning to dissolve his marriage and the reasons sources are saying are very different things. The court papers filed under Edgerton Hartwell II cited irreconcilable differences, “such as constant disagreements on life changing decisions that couples typically make together,” and the statement about wanting a paternity test suggests that he doubts he is the father of Keshia Knight Pulliam’s unborn daughter. The issue appears to stem from the fact that he doesn’t want the life-changing responsibility of a new baby and was unable to control her.
“It’s just that he had told her he wanted to wait before having a baby and things got really bad between them and then she pops up pregnant.”
Ed wanted Keshia to wait a little longer before posting the baby bump pictures, and again, she went against his wishes and did it anyway, suggesting that she is accustomed to having her way and isn’t used to consulting a man before making decisions. This may account for the language in his divorce decree regarding disagreements on “life-changing decisions.”
“Hartwell is very old-fashioned in marital beliefs and how couples should make decisions together, and it seems Keshia is more interested in remaining a successful independent business woman than baking cookies and being a submissive wife.”
The former linebacker “doesn’t have any evidence of her cheating,” but he wants a paternity test because of the timing of the pregnancy. Keshia told TMZ late Tuesday that she has nothing to hide and is positive that Ed Hartwell is the father of her child. She believes that couples should work things out like her parents did throughout their 39 years together. Keshia isn’t taking this situation lying down and is fighting for her marriage by contesting his petition.
Keshia’s fans are protesting as well and are coming for Ed Hartwell on social media, and it’s not pretty. Keshia has maintained her dignity and composure throughout the ordeal, but her supporters are doing the dirty work for her.

The downside of those rose-colored glasses is they may produce whirlwind romances and surprise New Year’s Eve weddings that sometimes lead to a promising relationship crashing and burning. Hopefully, Ed will soften his heart and Keshia will learn to compromise so they can work it and move forward together because they are contractually obligated in more ways than one. Ed Hartwell and Keshia Knight Pulliam recently opened Big Hart Sports and Fitness Academy, so they are business partners as well.
