WWE News: ‘SummerSlam’ Plans Reportedly Changed For Roman Reigns And Seth Rollins

Any WWE fan that watched WWE Raw in Pittsburgh Monday night saw something special. For months now, the WWE bragged about a new era. They were promising change with new superstars and new feuds that would excite the WWE Universe. As soon as Shane McMahon returned to the company, that was his motto to everyone. He wanted to change the way things were going on at that place. It was also CM Punk’s promise to the fans. Punk delivered.

It’s now time for McMahon to deliver, which he is. Just by looking at the last few weeks in pro wrestling. Dean Ambrose is the WWE champion. He cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase the same night he won it and finally realized his dream. Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins then were focused on getting that belt back. Alas, Ambrose did the unthinkable. He beat Rollins twice in two days to retain his WWE championship.

For the third time at WWE Battleground, the first-ever triple threat match with the Shield ended up having Ambrose on top in the end. He beat Rollins and Reigns. Now, Ambrose is on Smackdown Live with the most prestigious title in all of the WWE. On Monday at WWE Raw, Finn Balor became the No. 1 contender for the WWE Universal championship. He will main event SummerSlam against Rollins for that belt. Sasha Banks also shocked the world and won the Women’s title for the first time.

Before Reigns’ suspension, the events that took place following his time away from the WWE may have helped WWE officials decide who would fight for the new belt. According to Ringside News, the plan was for Rollins to face Reigns for the new title on WWE Raw.

“While the plan had been for WWE to create a new World title, the original plan for SummerSlam have changed. The original plan called for Rollins to face Roman Reigns for one of the World titles. Reigns’ 30 day suspension for his first violation of the WWE Wellness Policy clearly changed those plans. It’s being said that he is clearly in the doghouse after being pinned two nights in a row.”

The report makes a lot of sense. What they didn’t say was Stephanie McMahon’s opening lines about Reigns in her promo. She said Reigns wasn’t a good guy, or bad guy, but rather Reigns is a loser. He “blew it all” for WWE Raw when he lost to Ambrose at WWE Battleground. Not many can remember the last time the three-time WWE champion was pinned cleanly two nights in a row.

Before Balor defeated Reigns in the Raw main event, many fans believed the rumor that the Bullet Club would reform on television to help Balor win. As everyone watched, that didn’t happen. The idea was thought to be dead when the WWE got rid of the trademark, “Balor Club.” Then, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson were drafted to the red brand. So, anything is possible and a reunion could happen.

Are wrestling fans glad the plans changed in the WWE? Judging by the reaction from the WWE Universe in Pittsburgh Monday, Reigns was not a fan-favorite. Instead, he was vilified and hated by most of the fans on any given night. It’s true that one mistake from a wrestler on the fringe with fans can really make or break a superstar.

It’s obvious WWE officials are very high on Finn Balor. In his debut, he didn’t disappoint in the ring. In one night, Balor defeated Rusev, Cesaro, Kevin Owens, and Reigns. Not many can say that in their debut on the main roster. Now, it’s unlikely he will win the WWE Universal championship. It could even develop into a triple threat match. This scenario seems too good to be true. Then again, it is the new era.
