‘Home Alone’ Actor Daniel Stern Has Nostalgic Moment With ‘Friend’ From Film – And It’s Hilarious!

Actor Daniel Stern just found a way to send Home Alone fans back to 1990 for nearly 60 seconds.

The longtime actor, known primarily for playing robber Marv Mechants in the Chris Columbus-directed film, apparently had a close encounter with a very large spider. Fortunately, he was able to trap the spider long enough to provide his fans and followers on social media with a much-appreciated dose of 1990 nostalgia.

According to the caption of Daniel’s Facebook video, he “received a visit from an old ‘friend’ this weekend.”

“Hey, guys! Guess what I just got in the bucket… I hope I can show you without killing it.”

From the beginning of the video, most longtime Home Alone fans and critics more than likely realized who (or what) the old “friend” was right away. Paying attention to the fact that he apparently had something trapped under the red bucket and was afraid of killing it before he got a chance to show it off on the video provided more than enough clues to anyone even slightly familiar with the original Home Alone film.

After revealing his arachnid “friend,” Daniel Stern dove right back into character by screeching the iconic scream that helped to make Marv Merchants such a memorable character.

Perhaps the mere sight of the creepy crawler in the video will cause quite a few people to react the same way that the camerawoman in this video – who was more than likely Daniel’s wife Laure Mattos – did.

Many others, however, were probably just reminded of the amazing performances that were delivered in that classic, John Hughes-written film. In addition to the amazing mother-son chemistry between Catherine O’Hara and Macaulay Culkin, Daniel Stern and Joe Pesci raised the bar of criminal duos in a family comedy portraying Harry Lime and Marv Merchants (aka “The Wet Bandits.”)

For those that are not familiar with Home Alone enough to appreciate the nostalgia of Daniel Stern’s recent encounter, here is a brief rundown of the memorable scene:

Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin), an accidentally abandoned 8-year-old boy, is trying to protect his family’s home from being robbed by two neighborhood burglars. When he realizes that he can’t stop them from coming inside of his house, Kevin creates a series of homemade booby traps to make them regret that they ever did. Without giving away any spoilers unnecessarily, Kevin’s older brother/bully Buzz (Devin Ratray) owns a pet tarantula.

While chasing Kevin through the house, Marv eventually catches up with Kevin. Fortunately, Buzz’s pet tarantula is nearby to help Kevin create a diversion of sorts – leading to the memorable Home Alone scene that inspired Daniel Stern’s recent Facebook video.

Home Alone was a massive hit at the box-office after it was released into theaters on November 16, 1990. According to the Box Office Mojo, the film generated over $476.6 million at the box-office worldwide. The film spawned several follow-up sequels – including the original cast reprising their roles in the 1992 film Home Alone 2: Lost in New York along with new additions Tim Curry and Rob Schneider. However, neither of the sequels were able to generate the same commercial success or critical acclaim as the original movie.

Nearly 26 years after its theatrical release, many of the actors and actresses from the film have moved on to other acting roles – including Daniel Stern. However, the memorable characters that they played in Home Alone made a mark in cinematic history and 1990s nostalgia that will probably never disappear.
