Marilyn Manson: Drunk Diatribe? Rocker’s Racist Onstage Affront

Was Marilyn Manson drunk and spewing racist comments at a recent concert in Hershey, Pennsylvania? The shock rocker’s latest onstage antics have some worried about the mental and physical health of the Antichrist Superstar.

Reportedly, the “Dope Show” entertainer was more incoherent than usual during his set on July 10 when Manson and his band played Hershey’s Giant Center with Slipknot. At the end of one song, Mr. Marilyn can be heard saying to the audience, “don’t give me that uppity look”. He follows that demand with a seemingly racist caveat, “because you’re not black.” Watch the video below.

As reported by Loudwire, Marilyn Manson’s apparently “beer-soaked” tirade was prefaced with some disjointed dialogue referencing music producer Tyler Bates. Bates co-wrote and produced on Manson’s most recent album, last year’s blues-infused effort, The Pale Emperor.

Prior to a performance of the aforementioned “Dope Show,” Manson apparently spoke about the fellow musician. In a muddled introduction to the Mechanical Animals cut, he evidently compared Mr. Bates to a drug dealer in regard to his own self-described mental state. Is this confused behavior evidence of a drunk Marilyn Manson?

“I don’t talk about Tyler Bates a lot, but I don’t know if you know he was a drug trafficker in my mind because schizophrenia is like fun.”

Was Marilyn Manson drunk or simply exhausted from a demanding tour schedule? Perhaps Manson’s seemingly racist comment was uttered unintentionally. Manson is no stranger to controversy — the musician has often attempted to inflame audiences during his decades-long music career.

Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland, who briefly performed in Manson’s touring band circa 2008, recently gave an interview to Metal Hammer where he described his concern for Manson’s health. In response to a question regarding his time in Marilyn’s band, Borland responded that he was disturbed by what is alluded to be Marilyn Manson’s drunk behavior.

“That whole time was just kind of funny. It was more entertaining for me to get to see inside that whole world. It was entertaining, and simultaneously inspiring, and also a letdown at the same time. That guy is one of the funniest, quickest-witted people I’ve ever met, but he really needs to be healthier. He needs to start working on his inner organs and stop abusing them so much, because they’re going to fail him.”

As MetalSucks points out, Marilyn’s apparent racist remark was deployed after a sarcastic instruction to a stagehand to move some stray stage cabling. The publication goes on to state that perhaps Manson is unwell, regardless of the supposed racist comment, and that the “Beautiful People” musician should probably seek help.

In other Marilyn Manson-related news, the singer recently received the Classic Icon Award at the 2016 Alternative Press Music Awards. Manson’s acceptance of the Icon Award makes him the third overall performer to receive the accolade following 2015’s winners, Los Angeles punk band X, and the first-ever APMA Icon Award recipients in 2014, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts.

Manson’s appearance at the APMAs prompted his announcement of a forthcoming new album, SAY10. The upcoming record will be Marilyn’s tenth studio album and is scheduled for release in February 2017. As again mentioned by MetalSucks, the APMAs coverage included interviews with a visibly tired and possibly impaired Marilyn Manson, further illustrating the musician’s somewhat disconnected demeanor of late.

Do you think Marilyn Manson was drunk during the Pennsylvania performance or at the Alternative Press Music Awards ceremony? Would you term his alleged “black” comment as a racist remark? Let us know what you think of the reportedly drunk outburst from Marilyn Manson in the comments section below.
