Wonder Woman And Blue Beetle Announced For ‘Injustice 2’ Roster — Details Of New Characters Revealed In HD Trailer [Video]

Netherrealm Studios, the video game company well-known for the Mortal Kombat series, just revealed that Wonder Woman and Blue Beetle will be joining the roster of Injustice 2.

The highly-anticipated sequel to the 2013 smash fighting game, Injustice: Gods Among Us, was first announced for the Sony Playstation 4 and Microsoft Xbox One by Warner Bros. Interactive back in June. This came after rumors of Injustice 2 circulated the internet, primarily through social media, after a leak of the poster originated from GameStop. Eventually, a high-definition trailer was released which showcased new changes such as loot drops through story progression and winning matches. What can be found in said drops are gears which will enhance the characters themselves once equipped. Ergo, many believe Injustice 2 will utilize the micro-transaction DLC system which was first seen in Halo 5 and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.

Going back to the announced characters, Wonder Woman returns from the original Injustice: Gods Among Us. In the first game, there were two gameplay styles Wonder Woman players could utilize. The first using her lasso and wrist guards and the second holding a sword and shield. In Injustice 2, both styles are combined together to make Wonder Woman an even more powerful brawler, as reported by Playstation Lifestyle.

Blue Beetle, on the other hand, is a love letter to the fans because he was very highly requested by the fans, as reported by EventHubs. Blue Beetle is a brand new character. His alien technology will allow him to form different gadgets and gizmos to add him for whatever task comes his way. As a result, he is a jack of all trades character but is still well-rounded being just as effective in close combat as well as afar.

For starters, the game will have a tournament mode and will run on Good Game Peace Out (GGPO), a middleware that was designed to help create a near-lagless online experience for various arcade gamers and fighting games.

It was also revealed that Tom Taylor, the writer for the Injustice: Gods Among Us comic book series, will return to write the story for the Injustice 2 comics. Pertaining to the story, not much is known about it except that Supergirl plays a pivotal role. Ed Boon, the creative director of Netherrealm Studios, verified this.

“Supergirl is very pivotal to the two sides.”

Wonder Woman and Blue Beetle join Superman, Supergirl, Aquaman, Atrocitus, Batman, Flash, and Gorilla Grodd who were revealed in a 15-minute gameplay trailer. From what we can discern from it, the gameplay will be somewhat similar to Injustice: Gods Among Us. The crazy combos, super powers, using parts of the stage as a weapon, and high-damage stage transitions all return from the previous game. Returning characters seem to have been reworked so they play differently yet still have their unique style. Also, their ultimate attacks are a lot flashier too. For example, in Injustice: Gods Among Us, Batman called in his Batmobile to take out his opponent. This time, he calls in the Batwing.

Injustice 2 is set to release sometime in 2017. As mentioned earlier, it will also release on the Sony Playstation 4 and Microsoft Xbox One. It may not release for the Nintendo Wii U on a later date (kind of like how Injustice: Gods Among Us released on the system with all the DLC eventually), but it is possible it might release on the Nintendo NX.
