Thousands Petition For ‘Harry Potter GO,’ A ‘Harry Potter’ Version Of ‘Pokémon GO’

Harry Potter GO, a conceptualized game, may very well be on its way to the mobile gaming arena if Niantic Labs seriously contemplates the petition put forth by the innumerable Harry Potter fans.

According to Cinema Blend, die-hard fans of Harry Potter have proposed that Niantic Labs, the creators of the breakaway hit mobile game Pokémon GO, develop a mobile game based on the Harry Potter movies and which draws inspiration from the newly released Pokémon GO game.

The petition has been led by 23-year-old Ashtyn Hannon, who has been a Harry Potter fanatic for over 15 years. Titled as “Accio Harry Potter GO,” the proposed Harry Potter game will bear the same format as Pokémon GO, and will enable Niantic to harness the untapped potential of the huge market of Harry Potter fans. Earlier, Niantic had followed the strategy of digging into the dormant and isolated Pokémon fanbase, which was fueling its passion through 3DS Pokémon games. According to Cinema Blend, the mobile Pokémon game has become a phenomenal success across the world since its release on July 6, 2016.

In the proposed Harry Potter GO game, fans envision that they would be empowered to cast spells in real life and have a wizard duel with their friends. Additionally, the petition suggests that game designers should impart upon the gamer the ability to catch magical beasts. Independent reports that the enthusiastic Harry Potter fans behind the Harry Potter GO idea want the game developers to include all the magical creatures that feature in J.K. Rowling’s soon to be released Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

It has further been suggested that the number of magical beasts caught by the player should be linked to the number of spells that can be cast. The conceptualized Harry Potter GO might even have the overarching aim of having the player track the seven Horcruxes that would then need to be destroyed by swords and basilisk fangs. Fans have also called for the ability for Harry Potter GO players to be “sorted” into eponymous houses, similar to the ones depicted in the Harry Potter universe.

Harry Potter GO isn’t the only inspiration that has come up in the minds of Harry Potter fanatics. According to the Christian Post, the invisibility cloak gifted to Harry Potter in one of the films, and which features throughout all eight films in the franchise, is poised to become a reality thanks to researchers at the Queen Mary University of London.

The research team has enhanced the properties of electromagnetic radiation to create a graded index nanocomposite coating that not only makes a curved object appear flat, but which can also make objects appear to disappear by using nanotechnology.

The cloak of invisibility in the Harry Potter franchise is just one of the many magical objects that have amazed Harry Potter fans. There are also bizarre creatures and magical beings which have left fans awestruck. One such bizarre creature is the Mandrake, a rooted plant that makes a noise similar to a screaming baby when uprooted. According to the books and films, the Mandrake screams in such a deadly way when uprooted that the scream can kill anyone who hears it. According to ABC News, a couple from Oregon, who are big fans of the Harry Potter franchise, derived inspiration from the Harry Potter movie and dressed their newborn baby as a Mandrake for a special photo shoot.

Their older son was also featured in the photo in a Harry Potter costume alongside his baby brother, who was just four days old when the picture was taken.

Considering the popularity of Harry Potter, the petition to produce Harry Potter GO may not be necessary after all. The executives at Warner Bros. Studios might be on their way to holding serious talks to discuss the possibility of launching a Harry Potter GO game similar to Pokémon GO. However, it is always a good idea to go ahead with a petition to make it clear to the team at Warner Bros. just how many Harry Potter fans there still are, and how well received the Harry Potter GO game would be.
