Paget Brewster: Sorry, John Stamos — Emily Prentiss Is Coming Back To ‘Criminal Minds’

Actress Paget Brewster is reportedly heading back to Criminal Minds!

That’s right — Emily Prentiss is coming home!

According to CBS, Kirsten Vangsness revealed the big news during a Fan Favorite Panel at San Diego Comic-Con. The report states that Paget will be featured on the popular series as a recurring guest star throughout the show’s upcoming 12th season.

Paget confirmed the news on Twitter Friday, letting her 325,000 followers know that she is “shooting a whole bunch of episodes this year.”

Paget Brewster was recently featured in a supporting role on the FOX comedy Grandfathered starring John Stamos, Josh Peck, and Christina Milian. Paget played Sara on the short-lived series, which allowed her to portray a single grandmother of Josh Peck’s daughter and the apparent “one that got away” from John Stamos’ character’s past.

Even though the show generated average reviews throughout its first season, news of its official cancellation started circulating back in May.

To many John Stamos and Paget Brewster fans that were hoping the show would immediately get a second chance on a different network — as what happened with previously cancelled shows Nashville, The Mindy Project, and Arrested Development — the news of Paget rejoining the cast of Criminal Minds may come as a big shock.

However, long before she was Grandma Sara on Grandfathered, Paget Brewster made a name for herself as Emily Prentiss on the Jeff Davis-created procedural drama.

Paget Brewster first joined the cast of Criminal Minds as a series regular back in 2006 after actress Lola Glaudini stepped away from the role. In February of 2012, Paget issued an official statement to let the show’s fans know she would be leaving the series after its seventh season. Earlier this year, she brought Emily Prentiss back to the Criminal Minds set for two episodes – one in February and another in March.

When Paget Brewster was first asked by executive producer Erica Messer to return to Criminal Minds for the series’ 200th episode, according to TV Guide, she did not hesitate to hop on board.

“I said yes right away — no question. Erica called me directly before talking to any agent or executive or anything. She just called me up and said, ‘Hey, we want to have people come back for the 200th.’ I said, ‘Absolutely. Whatever you want. I’m game. I’d love to.’ I was really flattered that they asked me. There was nothing to think about.”

Messer confirmed her excitement to bring Paget Brewster back to the set for the 200th episode, claiming that the 200th episode was about “celebrating our fans and family.”

Quite a few people seem to be very excited about Paget Brewster returning to Criminal Minds in a recurring role for the upcoming season — including some of her co-stars.

Whether Paget Brewster will return to the Criminal Minds cast as a series regular or not is yet to be seen. However, when the show premieres its 12th season in late September, chances are that quite a few fans are going to be rooting for her in front of their home television screens.
