San Diego Comic-Con 2016: 3 Reasons Why Carol From ‘The Walking Dead’ Isn’t Crazy

The Season 7 trailer for AMC’s The Walking Dead was just dropped at San Diego Comic-Con. While the anticipated Negan-heavy content invariably turned up like expected, it was the advent of a slightly strange Carol Peletier that really got fans talking.

SPOILER ALERT: This article contains information and speculation about Season 7 of AMC’s The Walking Dead. Please proceed with caution if you wish to avoid spoilers.

She only appears for a few short moments in two parts of the Season 7 Comic-Con trailer for The Walking Dead, but those fleeting moments offer up some serious questions. The first image is harmless enough. It shows Carol (Melissa McBride) waking up. She appears to be in better shape than fans saw her in the Season 6 finale of The Walking Dead, although still injured to a degree.

Later on in the Comic-Con trailer for The Walking Dead, Carol is seen again. She appears to be a lot healthier, although, perhaps a little too perky. She utters the following line.

“I don’t know what the h*ll’s going on in the most wonderful way.”

So is Carol crazy now? Maybe, she is, but there might be a few other possibilities as to why she is so happy in the Season 7 trailer.

  1. Carol has amnesia. It could happen, after all, she has been through a lot recently and has had a crisis of conscience leading up to the Season 6 finale of The Walking Dead. Perhaps the trauma of injury along with the general trauma of having to do the things she has done throughout the zombie apocalypse has been Carol’s tipping point, and she has literally zoned out for a while?
  2. Carol is on drugs. While Carol doesn’t seem like the drug-taking type, she did sustain some pretty nasty injuries at the end of Season 6 of The Walking Dead. The Season 7 trailer has shown the definite introduction of a new group, the Kingdom, that fans got a glimpse of in the Season 6 finale. In the finale, both Carol and Morgan met up with this new group. So could someone within the Kingdom have given Carol some pretty strong medication while she recovers from her injuries? If this is the case, it could certainly lead to her uttering the line above.
  3. Carol is pretending again. When Carol entered Alexandria, she put on a pretty convincing act as everyone’s favorite grandmother. From baking cookies to pretending she had been sheltered by Rick’s group and didn’t even really know how to use a gun led to the citizens of Alexandria underestimating Carol Peletier. Could Carol be doing this again? If so, will the Kingdom fall for her act or will Morgan call her out on it?

While this appears to be the only times Carol appears in the new Comic-Con trailer for Season 7 of The Walking Dead, there is actually one more sneaky shot of her. The image below shows Carol being pushed in a wheelchair by Morgan through what is probably the grounds of the kingdom’s compound. So, is Carol permanently disabled, or is she just recovering? Only by tuning into Season 7 of The Walking Dead in October will reveal all!
