Music Producer Sean Garrett Sued By American Express Over Unpaid Six Figure Bill

Music mega producer Sean Garrett is being sued by credit card issuer American Express. According to the credit processing company, the famed producer has failed to make payments on an overdue six figure bill.

Known for his work with the likes of Nicki Minaj, Usher, and Beyonce, the hit-making producer has managed to earn millions of dollars but has failed to pay a bill totaling $108,084.62.

After various attempts to collect on the huge payment, American Express filed a lawsuit in Fulton County, Georgia.

Garrett’s original credit limit was listed in the lawsuit as $55,000. At this time, it is still unclear what type of items the mega producer bought with the card that pushed him so far over his spending maximum.

The American Express lawsuit is actually the least of Garrett’s money concerns; a federal tax lien was recently filed by the State of Georgia after he failed to pay $732,553.57 for the 2006 and 2007 tax years.

Sean Garrett and his reps have not returned calls at this time.

The tax issue among singers has run rampant recently. You may recall that singer-producer R. Kelly is currently paying back $6.2 million in state and federal taxes after years of missed payments.

With royalties, concert performances, licensing agreements, and other payments being handed over to producers, musicians, writers, and other members of the music community, I can’t say I’m surprised by the missed tax payments in what I’m sure is a confusing mess of payments.

Here’s the real question: If he is making millions of dollars, how much is Sean Garrett spending if he’s missing large tax payments he should easily be able to afford to pay.
