Johnny Depp Divorce: Some Things Are Nobody’s Business

In a celebrity divorce that’s been ugly since the beginning, Johnny Depp is trying to keep some private things private, but so far Amber Heard is refusing. This has nothing to do with her abuse allegations, however. It has to do with financial information.

Heard requested financial information from Johnny Depp as part of the divorce proceeding. This is a usual practice that’s necessary in order to divide assets. E! Newsobtained a court document that indicates that, while Depp agrees that she has a right to the financial information, he wants her to sign a confidentiality agreement before providing the requested information.

“Johnny does not dispute that Amber is entitled to the majority of the information sought in her discovery requests and subpoenas. He willing to produce the documents necessary for Amber’s evaluation… He has asked, however, that a confidentiality agreement be executed prior to the production of documents in order to protect the parties’ privacy.”

Documents go on to explain that the split of Depp and Heard has been a very public one and that Johnny doesn’t want his financial information to become a subject for public discussion.

“Amber’s need for financial information to resolve this case is distinct from the public’s appetite for information about celebrity divorces. Yet Amber has inexplicably refused to sign any agreement to maintain confidentiality in this action. Johnny has proposed two different versions of a confidentially agreement and has expressed his willingness to consider revisions and/or an alternate agreement drafted by Amber’s counsel.”

In addition, according to a report from TMZ, Depp’s attorney is claiming that details the website previously published about their settlement were leaked by his estranged wife’s legal team.

“We agree to your proposal that ‘both sides would do everything in their power to prevent any further publicity and/or media disclosures about this matter, the case and the parties’ without exception… On 6/10 TMZ posted a story which contained specific provisions of the verbal settlement offer made to you… Not only did you not comply with your proposed agreement, you violated provisions.”

If true, this gives credence to Johnny’s concern that details about his personal finances may be leaked. Depp’s attorneys also claim that Heard is requesting financial records from fellow Hollywood Vampires band members Duff McKagan, Alice Cooper, Joe Perry, and Matt Sorum. Johnny and his attorneys are objecting to this request which they call “irrelevant.”

Johnny reportedly also asked Heard to sign a confidentiality agreement back in May. She refused. The Wrap reports that Depp’s attorney states the following in court papers.

“Amber has inexplicably refused to sign any agreement to maintain confidentiality in this action… Johnny has proposed two different versions of a confidentiality agreement and has expressed his willingness to consider revisions and/or an alternate agreement drafted by Amber’s counsel. No such revisions nor alternate agreement has been provided.”

Court documents also indicate that Depp agreed to a mediator suggested by Amber in mid-June. The couple expressed a desire to settle in order to minimize media exposure and come to an amicable conclusion, but a date was never scheduled.

Amber filed for divorce from Johnny on May 23. She requested spousal support. On May 27, Heard received a restraining order against Depp, alleging that Johnny abused her throughout their four-year relationship. Depp’s attorneys denied the claims, expressing that they believe she made the claims in order to bring the divorce to a close quickly and get a large financial settlement in the process.
