‘Gotham’ Season 3: Fox Casts Benedict Samuel As The Mad Hatter AKA Dr. Jervis Tetch

Season 3 of Fox’s Gotham is still months away from premiering, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t any news about the show. And for fans who where disappointed when the Mad Hatter didn’t appear in Season 2, it has just been announced that Benedict Samuel from AMC’s The Walking Dead has been cast as the Mad Hatter in the upcoming season.

Benedict Samuel starred as the memorable character in The Walking Dead that never really had a name but was known as the alpha wolf in the Wolves group that terrorized Alexandria in Seasons 5 and 6. The group of Wolves were known for resorting to animal-like behavior over the usual human qualities of the others battling it out against the undead in The Walking Dead.

While Benedict Samuel’s character was another who did not survive the zombie apocalypse in The Walking Dead, even after Morgan Jones (Lennie James) tried to rehabilitate him, perhaps he will have better luck as the Mad Hatter in Gotham. According to TV Line, Benedict will play the Mad Hatter, who is also known as Dr. Jervis Tetch. The official details on Samuel’s character and upcoming storyline in Season 3 of Gotham are below.

“[Jervis] Tetch is a talented hypnotist teetering on the edge of madness. He arrives in Gotham with an unwavering desire to find his sister, Alice, a young woman who went missing in the city years ago. It is anyone’s guess just how far down the rabbit hole he’s willing to go in order to find her.”

Of course, with the arrival of Benedict Samuel’s Mad Hatter character, fans can expect to see the Tweedle Brothers show up in Season 3 of Gotham as well according to an interview executive producer John Stephens did recently with Comic Book Resources.

“We’ll be seeing Mad Hatter in Season 3. We’ll be seeing the Tweedle Brothers, too, if we’re going to bring the Hatter in,” he told Comic Book Resources in the interview. As yet, the actors playing the roles of the Tweedle Brothers have not been announced by the Fox Network.

At first fans thought they would get a glimpse of the Mad Hatter in Season 2 of Gotham. John Stephens suggested this could be the case when he told Comic Book Resources in another interview that the Mad Hatter was one of the villains fans could expect to see. At that point in time, it was assumed he was talking about Season 2 of Gotham, which had yet to aired. However, now that Season 2 has come and gone, fans will have to wait until September for their first glimpse of Benedict Samuel as the Mad Hatter.

Benedict Samuel is not the first actor Fox has signed on from AMC’s The Walking Dead. Robin Lord Taylor had a brief stint on The Walking Dead as a character, Sam, who ends up in Terminus. And, as Walking Dead fans know, those who end up in Terminus usually end up as a meal. Robin Lord Taylor has since gone on to star as Oswald Cobblepot in Fox’s Gotham.

Along with this latest casting news, the Inquisitr recently also reported that Gotham‘s Poison Ivy will be replaced in Season 3. Previously, Poison Ivy was played by 14-year-old Clare Foley. Fox have decided to age the character up somewhat and have replaced Foley with 28-year-old, Maggie Geha.
