Sanchez makes impresive debut

The New York Jets made a strong draft day trade to acquire a potential franchise QB is USC’s Mark Sanchez. One pre-season game into his NFL career, that decision looks to be a very good one. While Sanchez only played one series, it was a very impressive series, and Sanchez looked like he had been an NFL QB for a long time. In no way did he look like a rookie QB seeing his first NFL action.

Sanchez’s first NFL pass was a 48 yard strike to wide out David Clowney. It was a pass that had to thread the needle and it did so. One his one and only drive Sanchez went 3-4 for 88 yards and led the Jets on a 93 yard 8 play scoring drive. Sanchez was very deliberate and effective NFL drive. If he can continue to play like that the future for the Jets looks very bright indeed.

With all of that being said Sanchez has not won the Jets’ starting QB job officially. However given the sub par performance of Kellen Clemens last night that may be just one of the details that still needs to be worked out. While Kellen completed 4 passes in his two series he also fumbled the ball away on the opening drive of the game. In a very real way Clemens looked like the inexperienced rookie, while Sanchez looked like a NFL veteran.
