BareMinerals Ready SPF 20 Foundation Is A Major Makeup Game Changer [Review]

BareMinerals Ready SPF 20 Foundation is a new addition to the popular Bare Escentuals line of mineral makeup, but the formulation goes above and beyond even the massive selling points of mineral makeup overall.

BareMinerals has a fantastically solid line of products, but as mineral makeup adherents know, the units never traveled well. Being a clumsy sort personally, I eventually had to accept that a creme foundation of some sort was required for portability because if not, there was mineral foundation all over my vanity, my car, my closet floor and every surface in the bathroom.

Prior to writing for the Inquisitr, I was a makeup artist. And when I worked for lines like MAC, I always secretly snuck BareMinerals foundation on since even its old formulation gave superior coverage and finish to every liquid, creme and powder formulation on the market — and I’ve worked with them all. Inevitably, customers would compliment my base and I’d be forced to attempt to replicate the finish with a liquid foundation, ones I found across-the-board never managed the same light but full-coverage effect available with my BareMinerals foundation of choice.

And now there is BareMinerals Ready SPF 20 Foundation. Being out of the makeup loop, I happened upon it while seeking yet another replacement for a good but not great creme foundation for everyday use. (Disclosure: a sample was not provided for this review.)

BareMinerals Ready SPF 20 Foundation really is a game changer. For those of us who suffer redness or rosacea, the product glides on lightly but fully, evening out even the reddest of red skintones with a smooth, subtle coverage. A small, slightly stiffer brush can serve as a concealer applicator for undereye areas and blemishes. And like its loose-powder brethren, BareMinerals Ready SPF 20 Foundation provides a physical block to sun damage, preventing sun exposure more effectively than a chemical sunscreen.

But coverage isn’t the only awesome aspect of BareMinerals Ready SPF 20 Foundation — the formula has an amazingly moisturizing, very finely milled texture that glides on like a dream. Bare Escentuals says the formulation “increases skin hydration by 108% after 12 hours of wear,” which is a difficult claim to quantify in the field — but it is true that even at the end of a long day, the very long-wearing pressed powder product doesn’t dry skin out and doesn’t let shine break through.

It’s early to say that BareMinerals Ready SPF 20 Foundation is a holy grail — I only received mine in the mail three days ago. But barring any unlikely long-term issues with the product, I am going to go out on a limb and say this product is a total holy grail for mineral and powder foundation fans, and even for women between foundations seeking a new, hydrating option for day to day wear.

BareMinerals Ready SPF 20 Foundation hit counters on August 30, and is available through the brand’s website, Sephora and Amazon.
