Mila Kunis Says Husband Ashton Kutcher Was Her ‘Friend With Benefits’

Mila Kunis is a happily married woman, but before that she was a single lady living it up. Kunis, who is usually very private about her relationship with husband Ashton Kutcher, opened up to Howard Stern while promoting her new film Bad Moms.

The two started dating in 2012, but denied rumors about their relationship until the inevitable. Now we’re finding out why they were so quiet about their relationship, and that’s because, according to Kunis, they were in denial themselves. According to Mila, the two started out as friends with benefits, which is ironic seeing as how the two starred in separate movies about two friends using sex without emotional strings attached. Like in the movies, Ashton and Mila couldn’t deny that it was more than just a hookup.

“If we just paid attention to these movies, we should know that sh** like this does not work out in real life. Well, we clearly didn’t pay attention. We shook hands, we’re like, ‘Let’s just have fun!’ I mean, literally we lived out our movies. We literally just had a very open conversation.”

Kunis went on to say that the two ‘70s Show co-stars started a romance once they met up at an awards show after not seeing each other for a long time. Back then, Kutcher had just divorced Demi Moore and was in the middle of a cheating scandal, and Mila Kunis was dating around after dating Macaulay Culkin for nine years. After the two reconnected, Kunis said that Kutcher invited her over to a housewarming party and that’s when the sparks flew.

Kunis said that his intention was to set her up with a friend of his, but soon after that idea, Kutcher became territorial of his friend of 20 years. “So, I went over, long story short — I didn’t leave ’till the next morning, and that was the first time, ever, that I’d ever slept over when I was single… at a guy’s house.”

“At two in the morning I was like, ‘I’m gonna call an Uber! See you later.’ And he was like, ‘You’re crazy!’ And I was like, ‘Bye! (laughs)’ Like, when I was single, I was so adamant about never, as stupid as it sounds, never staying over at a guy’s house. I was, like, peacing out, and he was like, ‘You’re not leaving.’ And that was the first time and only time.”

When the tabloids were focusing on what the nature of their relationship was, Ashton and Mila were trying to figure out the same. In fact, the two noted that they were both going through life changes, and deserved to both be single, but as it turned out, that’s not what happened.

” Then we ended up having a lot of talks about how this is a huge mistake, and how he needs to be single and I need to go and be single.”

“We both were in agreement. ‘Yeah, this is just fun. Just fun.’ Shook hands on it. Just fun. Three months later… I was like, ‘This isn’t fun anymore!”

She said that they were so close with each other at that point that they even told one another of their current hookups.

Fast forward four years later, and they’re now married and have a second child on the way. As for why their relationship works so well? When Kunis spoke to Glamour, she credited their friendship as co-stars as helping the couple keep an honest and open dialogue with each other.

“We can’t bullsh*t each other. I literally can’t lie to him. He can call me out on everything, and I can do the same, because there’s nothing about the other person’s face that we don’t know..There’s nothing we don’t know about each other because we’ve known each other for so long: the ugly, the bad, the good.”
