Nina Dobrev On Ian Somerhalder: ‘I Love Him’
The Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev revealed her true feelings for her ex-boyfriend Ian Somerhalder.
Dobrev and Somerhalder dated started dating in 2010. After their fallout in 2013, the Lost actor started dating Nikki Reed and married on April 26, 2015, in California. When Dobrev heard the news about their marriage, she told Entertainment Weekly that after her breakup with the actor, she has come to terms with herself and is very happy for his marriage.
“When I heard about the wedding, I thought it was beautiful. They look happy and I am happy and so I don’t see why there should be a problem with that.”
The Bulgarian actress further stated that she still is very close to him and respects his decision of moving on with Reed.
“I’ve said this before, that we didn’t break up because anything bad happened or because there wasn’t love or friendship. I love him and the friendship is still strong and I think he’s great and I care about him. And that didn’t change. Yes, we’re professional and that’s fine. We were friends long before we dated and we still are now.”

Dobrev reprising the role of Elena is still not confirmed by The CW. However fans of Dobrev and her ex-boyfriend Ian Somerhalder are still anticipating the good news of their reunion. This being said, several reports suggest that Somerhalder’s wife, Nikki Reed is not happy with the possible reunion of the former couple on the supernatural series.
The news of Somerhalder and Reed falling apart was confirmed when Daily Mail revealed that she accompanied her husband for the shooting of Season 8. The duo were spotted together at LAX Airport taking a flight to Atlanta for the filming of the upcoming season.
It looks like, Reed was feeling threatened by the possibility that, if her husband and his former girlfriend reunited on the show, they would reignite their lost love.
“Nikki and Ian are so in love. There’s nothing he could possibly do to upset her. The idea of Ian and Nina reuniting on screen for The Vampire Diaries doesn’t bother her one bit. She has no issues with this whatsoever.”
At the very same time, reports of a possible reunion between Dobrev and Somerhalder has indeed increased the excitement level among the fans of TVD. In a recent interview with TVLine, show’s executive producer Julie Plec stated that The CW is trying very hard to bring her back at the end of Season 8.
“It’s what she and I kind of agreed on when she decided to move on, and it’s what I’ve got in my head… She was very clear about what she wanted the next step in her life to be, and she’s doing a great job of achieving that. So I’m sticking with my side of the plan, which is to bring her back at the very end.”
In other news, fans will be disappointed to know that the upcoming season will be Somerhalder’s last season in the show, as even he thinks that there is not much story to tell after this season.
However, an insider close to the production recently revealed that it may be difficult for both Dobrev and Somerhalder to come back on the show together, but The Vampire Diaries is the show that has made them the celebrities they are today, and they owe it to the show.
“The show did so much for [Ian and Nina’s] careers and put them on the map. For Julie Plec and the other writers and creators, they feel like they owe it to them to suck it up and send the show off any way they want to send it off.”
The Vampire Diaries Season 8 has no official premiere date, and it is also not confirmed whether this will be the last season or not. But given the anticipation among fans, it is clear that, if The CW can indeed bring Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder back in the show, then their reunion will definitely help the show in gaining good ratings.
