Nina Dobrev’s ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 8 Return A Publicity Stunt? Damon-Elena Reunion Not Happening Soon?

Nina Dobrev may not be returning to The Vampire Diaries Season 8. After the actress missed a recent TVD cast dinner, a new report suggested that the highly anticipated Damon and Elena reunion may not happen after all.

Following reports that Nina Dobrev will be reprising her role as Elena Gilbert next season, Celeb Dirty Laundry speculated that this could turn out to be nothing but a publicity stunt to increase the show’s ratings. The Vampire Diaries executive producer Julie Plec recently hosted a cast dinner and posted a series of photos online. Dobrev was not even in one of the eight photos.

“Nina isn’t in any of the photos has The Vampire Diaries viewers wondering if all the hype about Nina returning is just a publicity stunt to get fans to watch in the dying on the vine CW drama.”

Interestingly, Ian Somerhalder’s wife, Nikki Reed, was part of the celebratory dinner. While she may have been invited because of her connection to Somerhalder, the outlet pointed out that the Twilight star is the only spouse present in the snap.

Multiple reports claimed that Reed is still jealous of Somerhalder and Dobrev’s chemistry. While Dobrev’s return could possibly increase The Vampire Diaries ratings, Celeb Dirty Laundry believed that this would pose problems for Reed and Somerhalder’s marriage. It was said that the love scenes between the former couple would “cause a lot of problems,” given how Reed cannot stand Dobrev.

According to Hollywood Life, Reed was “relieved” when Dobrev decided to leave TVD back in 2015. Even though it has been years since Dobrev and Somerhalder dated, an insider revealed that Reed is still uncomfortable knowing that her husband is working with an ex. With Dobrev gone, she felt more secure and at ease without her competition.

A year after Nina Dobrev’s exit, it seems like Nikki Reed has gotten over her jealousy. Contrary to early reports, an insider close to Ian Somerhalder’s wife insisted that Dobrev’s return “does not bother her one bit.”

“Nikki and Ian are so in love. There’s nothing he could possibly do to upset her,” the insider added.

Dobrev and Somerhalder are also willing to put their differences aside for the fans. They were both thankful for Julie Plec, knowing that the series put their careers on the map. After being on the show for several years, they wanted to give the fans and the creators the ending they deserved.

“They feel like they owe it to them to suck it up and send the show off any way they want to send it off. At the end of the day, they are professional, and that would win out over any other drama.”

In an interview with TV Line, Plec once again confirmed that Nina Dobrev would be returning to The Vampire Diaries series finale, whenever that may be. She said that they had an agreement that in the event that Dobrev decided to move on from the show, she will still return to the series finale to give it a proper ending.

Plec also said that they are not closing any doors. If Dobrev decided to do another season, they will be more than willing to accept her back. She, however, held that Dobrev has long decided to move on from the series.

“In my opinion, she was very clear about what she wanted the next step in her life to be, and she’s doing a great job of achieving that. So I’m sticking with my side of the plan, which is to bring her back at the very end.”
