‘Final Fantasy XV’ News: Hajime Tabata Weighs In On How Boss Encounters Can Be Handled

Final Fantasy XV news has surfaced, and this time Square Enix is granting insight on boss battles and how they can be approached. We’ve been teased with the hulking frames of bosses who seem to want to threaten Noctis and his companions. As a result, Square Enix is shedding light on what we can expect to see when the final product is released.

Trailers for Final Fantasy XV has shown us many things: flying cars, lush environments, and even the beloved chocobo. There have also been what looks to be epic boss battles, and that’s exactly what Square Enix has chosen to give details on. In a report by Gamingbolt, game director Hajime Tabata weighs in on the ways that boss battles can be approached. Various trailers show us the foes that Noctis and crew will be facing off against, and Tabata makes it known that there’s variety to be in had in how players can topple the opposition.

“There’s both styles really in there,” Tabata explained. “You’ve got those where you’re pretty much free to beat the boss any way you’d like, and you’ve got lots of different options to choose from. And then there’s others where you’re more guided to a certain way to do it and it’ll tell you this is the best way to defeat the enemy. Actually this is a cut-away part of the game, it’s a ten-minute demo, we had to make it complete in ten minutes, in a short period of time.”

Hajime went on to explain how Final Fantasy XV would give players the guidance needed to best deal with each battle as it comes.

“The original design for Titan has a number of different strategy options that you can choose from, but we wanted to make sure to lead people through it in an easy way so it can be completed quickly. And I’m not sure if you saw the Titan demo showed at the Microsoft conference, but if you take a look at the product out there, which you can play, I think you’ll be able to see it’s actually advanced further than that — it’s a lot more of a modern version than that one. We’ve fixed up the bugs in the version you saw at Microsoft. It really has improved the freedom for the player during the battle scene.”

Freedom in the Final Fantasy series has been a primary component when it comes to battles. There are usually multiple builds involved in any game, or each character will have a specific role to play. There are, of course, some exceptions to this. Enemies that are resistant to fire will need to be handled with ice-based attacks. Likewise, enemies that resist physical attacks will need to be dealt with by the touch of magic. Outside of these parameters, players have mostly had the freedom to decide how best to get to the victory fanfare.

An entirely different battle rests with the box art to Final Fantasy XV. Technobuffalo reports that the Final Fantasy XV cover will be reversible, giving fans the option to switch between two covers for the game’s box. With multiple editions coming out, it’s another welcome addition to what fans can look forward to when the game releases on September 30 of this year.

It seems that Square Enix is going back to the Final Fantasy recipe that fans are accustomed to. With the new battle system in place, some are still skeptical about the success of Final Fantasy XV. With speculation high, this tidbit of information gives us a glimpse of the formula that Square Enix hopes to deliver.
