Montrell Jackson: Slain Baton Rouge Police Officer Shared Chilling Facebook Post Just Days Before His Death

The city of Baton Rouge, LA has made national headlines once again following the shooting of five Baton Rouge police officers. Three of the five officers involved in the shooting have been pronounced dead. As the city mourns the loss of the officers involved, one of the slain officers has caught the attention of social media users due to a mysterious, heartfelt post he shared just days before his untimely death.

Following the highly publicized shooting of Alton Sterling, officer Montrell Jackson took to Facebook with a compelling post about the problems plaguing his city. In the eerie Facebook post, which now appears to be a chilling foreshadow of his fate to come, Officer Jackson admitted that he was physically and emotionally tired as the series of events unfolded had taken a toll on him. He admitted that the troubling shooting, the protests, rallies, and tension brought on by all of the incidents had been quite stressful.

“I’m tired physically and emotionally,” Jackson reportedly wrote on July 8. “I swear to God I love this city, but I wonder if this city loves me. In uniform, I get nasty hateful looks, and out of uniform some consider me a threat. I’ve experienced so much in my short life and these last 3 days have tested me to the core.”

He also stressed how important it was for the city to improve. He also offered to be a pillar of support for those in need during the daunting times of unrest the city is currently facing. “This city MUST and WILL get better. I’m working in these streets, so any protesters, officers, friends, family, or whoever, if you see me and need a hug or want to say a prayer. I got you,” he wrote in a July 8 post that went viral Sunday evening.

Although the Facebook post had been removed from Montrell Jackson’s Facebook page, a screenshot of it has gone viral. In the wake of his untimely death, many social media users have found his Facebook post quite chilling considering the series of events that unfolded earlier today. The latest news about Montrell Jackson follows the release of disturbing details about the shooter, who has been identified as Gavin Long, a former Marine. Under the social media name, Cosmo Setepenra, the Kansas native discussed methods that needed to be taken for justice.

Based on the social media rant, he believed peaceful protests would not relay messages outraged citizens have been trying to make, according to Heavy.com. “Violence is not THE answer (its a answer), but at what point do you stand up so that your people don’t become the Native Americans…EXTINCT?” he wrote on Twitter on July 13. After the shootings in Dallas, Long took to YouTube with disturbing views of the incident with a perspective that seemed to foreshadow the shooting that occurred earlier today.

“One hundred percent of revolutions, of victims fighting their oppressors, from victims fighting their bullies, 100 percent have been successful through fighting back, through bloodshed. Zero have been successful just over protesting. It has never worked and it never will. You gotta fight back, that’s the only way a bully knows to quit, he doesn’t know words,” he said in the video.

Although the details about the shooting have yet to be confirmed, it appears the shooting may have been planned. Initially, it was reported that the officers were dispatched to a shooting near the Hammond Aire shopping center in Baton Rouge. But, once officers arrived and gunfire was exchanged, the officers involved were wounded. Now Gavin Long has been confirmed to be dead and two other suspects are at large. However, no further details about the shooting have been released. A GoFundMe account has been set up for Officer Montrell Jackson. In a matter of hours, more than $28,000 of the $100,000 goal has been donated.
