Recently, there have been reports of players getting shot at by residents for trespassing and people playing the game while driving — as well, some people are just tired of seeing hordes of adults playing the game.
Whatever the case, you need to know how to keep yourself safe while hunting Pokémon.
Via Facebook, the Frankenmuth Police Department has proactively jumped into the realm of the trendy game with a few tips to keep players alive, in the real world.
Pokémon GO Tip No. 1: Be aware.
It might sound simple and chalked full of common sense. However, if you’ve played the Pokémon game, you know that it’s easy to find yourself glaring into your phone’s screen.
Although Pokémon GO players can see the area on the screen, that’s only “tunnel vision” at best.
“Be aware of your surroundings,” mentions the police department. “Look up and be aware of who is around you besides Pokémon.”

This is the Poké they were chasing after, by the way — a Vaporeon.
Pokémon GO Tip No. 2: Do not go hunting alone.
You’ve heard of the “wingman” concept, right? Well, when Pokémon hunting, it’s important to do it in a group.

There are a lot of people just waiting to take advantage of a lonely hunter, especially if the person is just a child.
“Tell people where you’re going and play in a group and stay with them,” notes Frankenmuth police.
Pokémon GO Tip No. 3: Know your boundaries.
This tip is mostly for parents, as a level of supervision and guidance.
It’s critical that you set limits for your Pokémon hunters, as notes Michigan’s MLive News. According to the police department, parents should set boundaries and time constraints in order to keep their children from straying into unfamiliar territory or danger zones.
Likewise, officers state that it’s crucial for parents to have their children routinely check their phones, outside of the Pokémon GO game.
Pokémon GO Tip No. 4: Do not trespass, period.
Trespassing has become a major issue regarding the game. Unfortunately, sometimes, Pokémon are located at people’s houses.

However, you don’t have to be in the person’s yard to capture that Pokémon. Just toss the Pokéball at it. The capture will happen.
Frankenmuth police state as follows.
“Don’t trespass it is not just disrespectful… it can be dangerous. People might call the police if you enter private property and your Pokemon can’t help you.”
Recently, two Pokémon GO players were shot at by an angered resident. The Inquisitr covered this story in another report.
Pokémon GO Tip No. 5: If police officers stop you.
This tip is quintessential. Pokémon players should not forget or neglect it. Frankenmuth police advise that, if a police officer stops you, ensure you show the officer that you’re, in fact, playing the game and are hunting Pokémon.
“Show them you are playing [Pokémon GO] since more than likely they are responding to a suspicious person call which has been called into 911 by a citizen,” mentions the police department.

You’ve probably seen many people walking with their phones in their hands, from kids to adults. It’s easy to become immersed in the game play.
However, if you follow these Pokémon tips, you at least increase your chances of staying safe during your hunt.
And remember, “Don’t Pokémon and drive.”
