Dope Scandal: Mark Hunt Is Prepared To Leave UFC

The seminal, highly anticipated, and exponentially controversial UFC 200 flew by in a flash.

The world famous wrestler Brock Lesnar was scheduled to make his reappearance after haplessly losing to Cain Velasquez at UFC 121 back in October 2010 (Lesnar was suffering from several ailments and afflictions, which were later revealed to be diverticulitis and infectious mononucleosis. The latter of the two, life-threatening). UFC President Dana White pulled Conor McGregor from the fight card; McGregor failed to make an appearance at a Los Angeles press conference because “[McGregor] was in Iceland training and didn’t want to ruin his preparation for the fight” (McGregor later released a statement thoroughly explaining why he was dropped). Anderson Silva steps in to fight Daniel Cormier because Jon Jones failed a drug test twice. It’s clear that UFC 200 was rather turbulent. However, the event still happened — and it was magnificent. Well, kind of.

Though Mark Hunt lost to Brock Lesnar by way of unanimous decision, Mark Hunt is quite perturbed. According to reports, Lesnar failed a drug test just before UFC 200 on June 28. Los Angeles Times reports that the UFC released a statement stating “The UFC was notified today that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency has informed Brock Lesnar of a potential […] violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample collection on June 28.” Although the USADA notified the world by way of a press statement that Lesnar failed the test, the organization has not identified the illegal performance enhancing substance. Which is unfortunate.

Following the repetitious problems with Jon Jones and his incessant drug test failings, and now Brock Lesnar testing positive for some illegal performance-enhancing substance, Mark Hunt is fed up: he wants half of Lesnar’s purse or else he is leaving the corporation. Mark threatens the UFC with such vigor.

“If you don’t give me half his sh*t [purse], I’m walking away from this company, I want out of here. This is rubbish. You [UFC] better do something. I already talked to the bosses. They better do something or I want out of here, I want a release from my contract. You guys are just making a mockery out of us, you’re making a fool out of me, you make me look like an idiot. I lost on that night to some f*cking cheat. There’s no way he could weigh 265 [pounds] like me—he was about 500 kilos, there’s no f*cking way he was weighing in at my weight.”

Talking with MMA Fighting, Hunt said, “The cheaters get a slap on the wrist and walk off. What penalty or deterrent is there to make them think twice? Nothing. And the [Nevada Athletic Commission], why should these [expletive] get anything? They are not the ones who had to fight with Lesnar or lose [to him]. I lost.”

Conversely, Brock Lesnar is incredulous of Hunt’s words. With brevity and briskness, Lesnar simply contests Hunt’s words with, “We’ll get to the bottom of this.” Interestingly, according to MMA Fighting, Brock Lesnar passed multiple USADA tests before UFC 200. Ryan Madden, a spokesperson for the USADA, released a statement to MMA Fighting, declaring, “With Mr. Lesnar having spoken publicly about the issue, I can confirm that he has been notified of a potential anti-doping policy violation, stemming from an out-of-competition sample collection on June 28, 2016. I can also confirm that the results from his previous samples collected by USADA were all reported as negative. Although USADA will not be providing any further specifics of the case at this time, I can tell you that Mr. Lesnar, as with every athlete under the UFC anti-doping policy, will be provided full due process under the rules.”

There’s no f*cking way.

– Mark Hunt.

Those are some scathing words from the New Zealand martial artist. Watch out. It seems the hunt is on.
