‘The Vampire Diaries’: Nina Dobrev’s Return Confirmed In Season 8

Great news for The Vampire Diaries fans. Series star Nina Dobrev’s return has been confirmed by series showrunner Julie Plec.

The Vampire Diaries star Dobrev and her ex-boyfriend Ian Somerhalder has always remained fans’ favorites thanks to their astounding portrayal of Elena and Damon.

Many critics and fans of the supernatural series earlier stated that the reason behind their amazing onscreen chemistry is because of their ongoing affair.

However, things turned out ugly when the duo decided to end their high profile relationship. The breakup cost Dobrev to leave the show after Season 6 and her departure brought the show very poor ratings. If recent reports are to be believed, then the actress is indeed making her comeback in the show and in a character which no one has earlier speculated.

In an interview with TV Line, showrunner Plec stated that The CW has decided that if they will bring Dobrev back in the show at the first half of the season then it may disappoint some fans, so they are now sticking to bring her character at the end of the season.

“Obviously, things can change throughout time, if the show goes on longer than we expect it to, or if we all collectively decide it would be fun to bring her back earlier, and she wanted to. But in my opinion, she was very clear about what she wanted the next step in her life to be, and she’s doing a great job of achieving that. So I’m sticking with my side of the plan, which is to bring her back at the very end.”

There were several reports in the past that suggested that fans of TVD wants to see Dobrev reprising her role of Elena, whereas there were many who suggested that she respects Somerhalder and his wife Nikki Reed and won’t be doing anything to jeopardize their marriage – as a result of which, she will be seen portraying the role of Katherine.

This being said Celeb Dirty Laundry reported that The CW will not bring the actress as Elena or Katherine. Instead, they are trying to bring her as a new villain who will intend to take revenge for all the deaths in the show.

Meanwhile, it is also being speculated that the Season 8 will be Somerhalder’s last season in the show. In his interview with TV Guide, the actor stated that there is not much left for his character to do after the eight seasons.

“We have decided to do one last season to really do the story justice. It’s almost like we’ve been chasing a high for the last five, six years. So let’s take things one step at a time: Season 7 wrap, vacation, lots of sleep, let the writers get started on Season 8, and then we’ll all see where we go from there.”

Well, these speculations and the confirmation from Plec suggests that there is a possibility that fans will get to see Somerhalder and Dobrev sharing the same screen again.

Even an insider close to the duo thinks the same. According to Hollywood Life, an insider suggested that TVD is the show that has made the stars what they are today and it is their duty to help the show when it is falling due to poor ratings.

“When the show ends Nina will be a part of it some way shape or form. She is 10,000 percent coming back. The show did so much for their careers and put them on the map. For Julie Plec and the other writers and creators. They feel like they owe it to them to suck it up and send the show off any way they want to send it off.”

Well, now as it is confirmed that Nina Dobrev will indeed return to The Vampire Diaries at the end of the upcoming season, one thing is still not confirmed – whether or not she will share the screen with Ian Somerhalder.
