Taylor Swift May Fight A Legal Battle Of The Century Involving Sexual Harassment

Taylor Swift could be appearing soon in a jam-packed courtroom near you, according to Teen Vogue. This is because the “Bad Blood” singer has been sued by former radio host David Mueller. Mueller alleges that he lost his job because Taylor had accused him of sexual harassment back in 2013.

Taylor Swift is counter suing.

With regards to Mueller’s case against the singer and songwriter, Taylor has requested her deposition not to be videotaped. The judge denied the request. A request by Mueller, however, to attend Taylor Swift’s deposition has been granted.

And so, the source concludes, “not only will Taylor be recorded, but she may have to come face-to-face with the former DJ.”

Taylor Swift alleges that David Mueller sexually harassed her during a meet and greet session. The American Queen Of Pop also added that the sexual harassment occurred before her Denver, Colorado concert in 2013.

Taylor Swift To Play Legally Blonde?

With regards to the videotaping of Taylor’s deposition, Teen Vogue says that there are specific guidelines as follows.

  • Only the original of the videotape will remain under the custody of Taylor Swift’s representative
  • Plaintiff’s counsel must have reasonable access to the tape

“That means the tape will only be made public if the trial is held; attorneys are also under a strict code on what they can discuss about the case,” said the source.

The source also said that a court date is still unknown at this time “as most of the case’s filings are under seal.”

Before Taylor Swift, Kesha filed sexual assault charges against her label manager. However, the singer lost the case in the temporary round, also according to Teen Vogue.

In a separate article, the source decried the impossible odds placed on the back of women who sue for sexual harassment.

“And now that a judge has temporarily ruled against Kesha, a famous, rich, white woman, who can hire the best lawyers in the game, what hope do any of the rest of us have?”

According to Teen Vogue, of the nearly 300,000 people who get sexually assaulted yearly, 68 percent do not report their situation to the authorities.

According to Rolling Stone, Taylor Swift donated $250,000 to Kesha’s cause this year.

It would be very interesting to see what the outcome would be of Taylor’s own court battle with sexual harassment. As the source has shown, it is such a tough nut to crack, especially from the victim’s point of view. If the case ever sees the light of court for Swift, there is no easy way of predicting the outcome. Like a double-headed beast, it can certainly turn one way or the other.

With the judge in Taylor’s case mandating that her deposition should be videotaped, the lawsuit is yet another nutritious fodder for social media. Taylor Swift on the witness stand? That would certainly be very interesting to watch.

A recent landmark ruling on the other side of the border with regards to sexual harassment in the workplace may shed some light on the nature of the beast. A Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) talk show host had figured in a sexual misconduct case against a number of his female co-workers.

The former radio show host wins the case as the judge found the female co-workers to be too conniving with each other and in so doing, unable to present true evidence in court, or so says The Star. Maybe focusing on presenting a clear evidence in court is just the silver bullet that Taylor Swift and her legal team will need for their counter suing offensive. But on second thought, maybe covering all the bases or considering all factors is a far better approach in fighting an enemy that resembles the Hydra — a mythical beast with two or more heads.
