Donald Trump Unveils New ‘TP’ Logo And The Internet Goes Crazy With NSFW Jokes – Is Trump-Pence Logo ‘Suggestive’?

Donald Trump not only chose his running mate for the upcoming presidential election, but he also unveiled a logo to kick off his campaign with his VP pick. However, the internet doesn’t seem to approve of the “suggestive” nature of the logo.

Shortly after Republican frontrunner Donald Trump announced that Mike Pence, the Indiana governor, would be his vice president, the Republican National Committee, in association with the presumptive Republican nominee’s Make America Great Again Committee, sent out a fundraising email that featured the new logo which indicated the new partnership. Just a cursory glance and many have started complaining about the logo being sexually suggestive.

Technically, the logo can be described as an interlocking blue T and P (for Trump and Pence), with the T going through the white space in the P. To the right are four red stripes and three white stripes, imitating the American flag, reported Politico. Right below the logo is Donald Trump’s last name, which is in the candidate’s campaign color and usual font. Below the “Trump” is Mike Pence’s last name, albeit in a slightly smaller font, and is red in color. While announcing his running mate through the fundraising email, Trump said,

“I am pleased to announce that I have chosen Governor Mike Pence as my Vice Presidential running mate. Together we will Make America Great Again! Contribute now to be the first to join the Trump-Pence Team.”

After the logo was unveiled, social media was ablaze with posts that dissed about the logo being obscene. Needless to add, the logo, which the Trump-Pence campaign will presumably use until the general election in November, hasn’t found many fans on the internet, reported Vox.

Many digital artisans and logo designers, who felt the logo was very incompetently designed, quickly whipped up some very elegant and professional-looking alternatives, all the while stressing it didn’t take much time to create them:

While almost no one had any qualms about the differently sized lettering, many thought the logo where the “T” of Trump appears to be penetrating the “P” of Pence is quite wrong and suggests some very bad and inappropriate notions. As Matt Negrin of Bloomberg Politics clearly points out:

Meanwhile, longtime former Democratic Rep. John Dingell asked a very direct question that was on almost everybody’s mind the moment they laid their eyes on the same:

Congressman Alan Grayson of Florida went a step ahead and clearly implied that electing Donald Trump would be disastrous for America, and was akin to the destruction of the country. His interpretation of the logo was:

If the suggestions weren’t enough, Samantha Bee offered a much clearer visual imagery of what the logo seemed to be doing:

Many suggested that given the NSFW (Not Suitable For Work) nature of the logo, the broadcasters should deploy visual censorship whenever their broadcasting shows the logo. Blurring or pixelating the logo would be a more appropriate method for the general audience, suggested Bloomberg‘s Negrin who took the pains to create an SFW version of the logo:

Some concerned parents even questioned how they are going to field the soon-to-be-asked uncomfortable questions from their children.

Donald Trump is well known for offending a range of groups including women, Hispanics, and Muslims with his comments that many view as excessively sexist or racist. However, people are grumbling that the logo manages to reach new lows for the Republican frontrunner. Bad design or not, the logo is certainly causing a lot of commotion on the internet. For all we know, Donald Trump’s campaign might not take this criticism to heart, but may even consider this as publicity.
