Tyler Baltierra Learns Hard Truth About His Father’s Addiction To Crack On ‘Being Butch’

Tyler Baltierra is best known one of the dads from the Teen Mom franchise. Fans met him and his then-girlfriend, Catelynn Lowell, on 16 & Pregnant. They made headlines for opting to put their child up for adoption instead of raising her. Baltierra and Lowell ended up married and welcomed another daughter, Novalee, last year. A lot has happened in Baltierra’s life over the last two years, including his father’s release from prison.

A new season of Teen Mom OG will begin airing in August, with Tyler Baltierra and Catelynn Lowell starring in it. These two have been through a lot in their young lives. Baltierra dealt with a lot because of his father’s choices. When Butch Baltierra was released from prison, he stayed with Tyler and Catelynn. He is now on his own and remaining sober, but his past actions are still affecting his son today.

According to Radar Online, Tyler Baltierra was shocked to hear his father say he was never addicted to crack cocaine. Drugs were the reason he grew up without his father, and to hear the denial was enough to set him off completely. This all took place as MTV was filming the Being Butch special.

MTV decided to do a one-hour special about Butch Baltierra to coincide with the new season of Teen Mom OG. They recently ran one called Being Barbara with Barbara Evans of Teen Mom 2. Fans become invested in the people who are shown on camera, and Butch was highly popular last season. Tyler Baltierra has struggled with learning how to let his father back into his life, and that is addressed on the special as well. He lived most of his teen years without him, and when it was time to face the hard stuff like adoption, Butch just wasn’t there for his son like he should have been.

There has been some controversy with Tyler Baltierra and comments he has made about drugs. A few months ago he commented about smoking marijuana and the action for legalization. Social media lit up with both positive and negative comments. Many pointed out that Baltierra has addiction in his family, and using marijuana could lead to other things in the future. While he refuted the claims, he has not made any more comments about recreational use.

Things seem to be going well for Tyler Baltierra and his father, Butch. The two are learning how to rebuild their relationship that drugs ruined. Butch has remained sober on the outside, but he seems to be in a bit of denial when it comes to his actual problem. Tyler mentioned that he once sent a text to him about loving crack cocaine more than he did Tyler, which has stuck with him ever since. Since Butch denied being addicted to crack cocaine, it struck a nerve with Tyler. The father-son relationship won’t be repaired overnight, but it is getting better with each passing day.

Catelynn Lowell attended rehab earlier this year for depression, and Tyler Baltierra stood by her side. He has done a lot to ensure their relationship — and now marriage — stays on the right track. Both of them went through a lot when they were teenagers and have built themselves up when the odds were stacked against them. Lowell saw how Butch Baltierra being missing from Tyler’s life affected every decision he made, and she has been there to support him when no one else could. A lot has happened over the last decade for both of them, and each has come out a stronger person in the end. Tyler Baltierra has learned to forgive his father, but he will never be able to forget the words that were said or the pain they caused.
