Tami Hansbrough Resigns From UNC Amid Controversy

With questions being raised over the fundraising practices at UNC-Chapel Hill, Tami Hansbrough, the mother of Tyler Hansbrough, has decided to step down from her position as the university fundraiser.

According to Opposing Views, Tami allegedly took several personal trips with North Carolina money. It’s not clear how much money she used or how often she used it, but apparently people were asking enough questions for Tami to resign.

ESPN reports that the University is still looking into trips that Hansbrough made with Matt Kupec, UNC’s vice chancellor for university advancement, with UNC money. Kupec has also resigned.

The Charlotte Observer notes that details about the inappropriate trips have slowly been revealed. Tami and Kupec traveled together at least 25 times since May 2010 to watch Hansbrough’s son Ben play basketball at Nortre Dame. Some of those trips apparently coincided with Tyler Hansbrough’s games with the Indiana Pacers.

Bleacher Reports says that Hansbrough took similar trips when Tyler was a student at UNC. Those trips were apparently legitimate since she used them as part of her fundraising efforts. It’s unclear how many of Hansborough’s recent trips were legitimate.

But since Tami just resigned… Most of the trips were probably made with UNC money.

The report doesn’t tie any illegal activity to Tyler or Ben but the story will inevitably be pinned to them as well. After all, the only reason this is really news is because Tammy Hansbrough is the mother of an Indiana Pacer and the former pride of the University of North Carolina.
