Joss Whedon Talks ‘S.H.I.E.L.D’ TV Show

It seems like Joss Whedon just can’t keep his mouth shut at the moment. Having been blabbing about the follow up to his rather successful comic book movie, The Avengers, yesterday he’s now taken it upon himself to divulge a whole host of information regarding a new S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series.

Marvel is are now trusting the balding, ginger genius with almost all of their prized possessions as he now oversees the company’s Phase Two of films. And, in an interview with MTV, the director discussed his leap back into the world of television and revealed some further details about the project.

“It’s new characters,” he stated. “It needs to be its own thing. It needs to be adjacent [to the movies] but you don’t want to do a show where you’re constantly going, ‘Iron Man just left, but he was totally here a minute ago.’ You want them to do their own thing.”

All of which sounds very sensible indeed. Like he’d do it any other way though. Marvel is currently in production on a pilot for the show with Whedon set to co-write and maybe even direct.

He even went into some more minute detail about what might be in store for the series and how they could approach the narrative arc:

“What does S.H.I.E.L.D. have that the other superheroes don’t? That, to me, is that they’re not superheroes. But they live in that universe. Even though they’re a big organisation, that [lack of powers] makes them underdogs, and that’s interesting to me.”

After The Avengers, Joss, you have the full and undivided attention of the world.
