Vince McMahon Reportedly Wishes He’d Signed AJ Styles Ten Years Ago

When AJ Styles arrived in WWE back in January, many were wondering just how his run with the company would go. There’s no question that Styles is a fantastic in-ring wrestler, but he had a few things going against coming into WWE; one of which was the fact that he’s not the biggest guy in the world, and he’s certainly not one of the biggest guys on the WWE roster.

If we’ve learned anything about WWE Chairman Vince McMahon over the years, it’s that he likes size and muscles, which is why we’ve seen guys like Braun Strowman and Apollo Crews get called up to the main roster way before they were ready to be there. But, according to Cageside Seats, Vince McMahon is telling people within WWE that he wishes he’d signed AJ Styles ten years ago.

It’s been reported that Vince McMahon has soured on Roman Reigns, and he began souring on him well before he got suspended. It’s also been reported that Reigns’ push may end up going to AJ Styles, which would be something that the WWE fans would be more than willing to accept.

Soon after WWE announced that they were doing a brand split, the Wrestling Observer reported that Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins would be the faces of Monday Night Raw, while John Cena and AJ Styles would be the faces of Tuesday Night SmackDown. It’s also been rumored that Cena and Styles will have a one-on-one match at SummerSlam to determine who the Champion of the SmackDown brand will be.

The WWE draft takes place one week from today on next Tuesday’s SmackDown show, so we’ll see if the Observer had it right, or if things ended up changing due to the Roman Reigns suspension. In fact, it’s not even a guarantee that Reigns will get drafted due to the fact that he won’t even be at the show because he’ll still be serving his 30-day suspension.

AJ Styles just turned 39, so it’s not likely that WWE will attempt to make him the face of the company as they tried to do with Reigns, but now that Vince McMahon is fully behind “The Phenomenal One,” we could see the longtime TNA star finally get a WWE world title run.

Now that WWE is going to have split brands, they’re going to be more willing to take chances with guys that they wouldn’t ordinarily take chances with, and AJ Styles could really benefit from that.

There’s also a chance that The Club may be split up in the upcoming draft as WWE is teasing that there will be multiple teams who get split up on July 19, and with Finn Balor coming to the main roster, Anderson and Gallows may finally be taken away from Styles and given to Balor. Since Vince McMahon is reportedly really high on Styles at the moment, he may want to take him away from the faction and give him a push as a singles star.

The only thing we know for sure is that AJ Styles will be a top star on one of the brands following next week’s draft. Again, he’ll probably end up on SmackDown along with John Cena, but plans may have changed over the last couple of weeks. But, it’s probably pretty safe to assume that Styles will end up on the same brand as Cena because WWE wants to continue their feud through SummerSlam and possibly conclude it at the September pay-per-view.

When you’re a WWE superstar, and you have Vince McMahon in your corner, that means big things are guaranteed to happen for you in the future. So, we may be seeing AJ Styles hold WWE championship gold before this year is over.
