Andy Murray Rubs Elbows With Royalty, Then Heads To A Nightclub For A Wimbledon Celebration

It was a sweet victory for Andy Murray after he won his second Wimbledon trophy on Sunday. He defeated Canadian Milos Raonic in a 6-4 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-2) match and became the first British man to claim two victories at this prestigious tournament in 81 years. After reveling in the joy of winning, it was time to relax with an ice bath, get all dressed up for the traditional Champions dinner, and then off to party at a nightclub with his team.

Andy Murray told everyone after the match that he was going to really enjoy this win the second time around, and it looks like he did just that. The Telegraph reported that the Scotsman headed to a London nightclub to celebrate his win until the early morning hours. His wife, Kim Sears, and his team were by his side enjoying the night as well. They were dancing the night away and drinking champagne. Supposedly, the members of One Direction were also on hand to help him celebrate.

Of course, the first order of the night was to attend the Champions dinner at the Guildhall in London to celebrate. Murray was there alongside Serena Williams, who has now won 22 titles with her Wimbledon victory on Saturday. Apparently, Andy opted not to do the traditional celebration dance with Serena and went to the club instead. The champ looked quite dapper in his tux with his wife by his side, but once he arrived at the nightclub, the fancy jacket came off and the partying began.

The 29-year-old tennis pro also had the chance to rub elbows with royalty. He was greeted by Prince William and Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, right after Murray nabbed the Wimbledon trophy. According to People, the two British dads chatted about their kids and how little sleep they get with having their wee ones at home. Prince William seemed genuinely interested in Andy’s growing family.

“Congratulations, I don’t know how you manage it with no sleep. How is your daughter doing, alright? Is the family good?”

Andy Murray and Kim Sears’ 5-month-old daughter, Sophia, is traveling with them as the Wimbledon champ goes from one tournament to the other. He told the royal that his little girl has just started sleeping through the night. He admitted that the first few months had been kind of rough.

It is obvious how much love Murray has for his daughter, and he has said that fatherhood has totally changed him. That could be exactly why he got so emotional after he beat Raonic. He sat in his chair crying into his towel. He said in the press conference how his perspective has changed since Sophia has been born.

“I have always been very emotional, people don’t always see it but if you ask my wife she will tell you I’m pretty emotional. Obviously having children changes your perspective on life. I feel like I’m appreciating things a bit more now. Tennis isn’t the be all and end all which is a good thing. The first thing I think of when I get up in the morning isn’t tennis anymore and that’s a good thing.”

The baby was left in the care of Kim’s mother, Leonore Sears, while her parents were out partying on Sunday night. The tennis player apparently got just a few hours of sleep before he had to be back at the All England Club for a press conference and to pose for some official photos on Centre Court.

It is doubtful that Andy Murray will be taking part in the Davis Cup later on this week, as he had said earlier. A final decision has not been made regarding this tournament, but even if he does not play, he is still planning on being there in support of his country’s team.

The next big event on his agenda is the Rio Olympics in August. In the meantime, Andy Murray will be spending some much-needed time with his family and enjoying his huge Wimbledon win.
