Anti-Muslim Movie ‘Innocence Of Muslims’ Could Be Fake, ‘Sam Bacile’ May Not Even Exist [Report]

The anti-Muslim movie that reportedly sparked a wave of violent unrest in Egypt and Libya may not actually be a movie at all. And as for the movie’s director? A new report claims that Sam Bacile may not even exist.

Most of the names in the movie’s “trailer” appear to be overdubbed, and the video also appears to be a compilation of clumsily overdubbed moments from a clearly haphazardly-edited set of scenes, reports BuzzFeed.

Among the overdubbed words is the name Mohammed, suggesting that the footage may have originally been from something completely different. The footage may also have come from several video sources, because of discrepancies among actors and locations.

CNN notes that the 80 cast and crew members of Innocence of Muslims released a statement after the protests at the US Embassy in Cairo and the US Consulate in Benghazi, suggests that they are upset by the film, and were misled by the producer they worked with. The statement reads:

“The entire cast and crew are extremely upset and feel taken advantage of by the producer. We are 100% not behind this film and were grossly misled about its intent and purpose. We are shocked by the drastic re-writes of the script and lies that were told to all involved. We are deeply saddened by the tragedies that have occurred.”

As for the film’s producer, Sam Bacile may really be a pseudonym used to keep the man from being found in case of any backlash, according to The Atlantic. Steve Klein, a self-described militant Christian activist in Riverside, California, who is reportedly a consultant for the film, stated that the producer of the film is not Israeli, as many reports have said, and is probably not Jewish either.

Klein also asserted that Bacile is a fake name, and he has no idea what the person’s real name is. When asked to describe what Bacile was like, Klein stated:

“I don’t know that much about him. I met him, I spoke to him for an hour. He’s not Israeli, no. I can tell you this for sure, the State of Israel is not involved, Terry Jones (the radical Christian Quran-burning pastor) is not involved. His name is a pseudonym. All these Middle Eastern folks I work with have pseudonyms. I doubt he’s Jewish. I would suspect this is a disinformation campaign.”

Four Americans were killed in the Libya protests when an RPG was shot at them, including a US ambassador. As for the identity of the film, if it is a real film? Authorities have yet to find the man responsible.
