Rebel Wilson: Attractive People ‘Don’t Have A Great Personality’

Rebel Wilson is also known as “Fat Amy,” but she wants more than that for herself. Weight has always affected the career of Rebel Wilson and she recently opened up about it. According to People magazine, Rebel Wilson has a hormonal imbalance which ends up resulting in making her gain weight quickly.

While she was opening up about her weight issues, Wilson remembered a time when she noticed a bigger girl with a similar comedy style to her who seemed to be getting more laughs than she was at the time. She recalled wondering at the time whether the other girl was a more successful comedian simply because of her weight.

Rebel Wilson spoke on how that particular experience provided her with valuable insight into her weight and its effect on her comedy.

“I don’t know if it was mega-conscious, but I thought: ‘How can I get more laughs? Maybe if I was a bit fatter…’ And then suddenly I was fatter, and doing comedy.”

The hormonal balance she mentioned does not seem to hinder her from losing weight, as Rebel Wilson has been shedding the pounds recently. When people tell her not to lose the weight for a myriad of reasons, Wilson brushes off their remarks and tells herself, “Why not?”

Rebel Wilson has been losing weight despite the fact that she does see her size as a career advantage. While most women look at their size as a disadvantage, Wilson looks at it as a strong point.

In an interview last year, the Bridesmaids actress noted that female comedians have an unspoken recommendation to be of a certain size and voiced her opinions on how bigger girls are more successful in the comedy world.

“Bigger girls do better in comedy. I don’t know why. Maybe because people find it easier to laugh. It’s very hard to laugh at someone who’s very attractive, I think. And normally those people don’t have a great personality anyway.”

Rebel Wilson believes that she can lose weight if she wants to, and despite the fact that she has lost a considerable amount of weight in the past few months, the actress and comedian still thinks it is unlikely that she will get down to a healthy weight anytime soon. Joking that she has dreams about going to a health farm and losing 50 kgs, Rebel Wilson admitted that she still wonders about what would happen to her career in comedy if she were to shed her weight.

Despite her status as one of the funniest comedians to grace the screen in the last five years, Rebel Wilson never originally intended to be a comedian. According to the Telegraph, Rebel Wilson’s career was set when the audience laughed at her when she spoke her first line in a stage play.

The play was not intended to be funny, but for some reason, she ended up making the audience laugh when she took to the stage to speak her first line. The laughter caused the Pitch Perfect actress to feel infuriated, which only caused the audience to laugh even harder.

Rebel believes that there is simply something about her that makes people laugh, and if she was going to be funny anyway, then she would strive to be the funniest. At the time, the Pitch Perfect actress was built like an athlete and she played tennis and had strong arms, but she was not particularly fat.

When Rebel wrote her own play, she cast herself alongside a girl that was larger than she was, and she said that that particular experience with the play was the defining moment that provided her with the insight on what she had wanted to do and how she wanted to do it.
