Brie Larson May Be The Youngest Actress To Play A Superhero

Brie Larson is a name not uncommon to the world of comic book movies, as she as played the role of Envy Adams in 2010 hit film Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. And now, rumors have been circulating for a while that Brie Larson has another role in an upcoming comic book movie. She is rumored to be the first choice of Marvel studios to play the part of Carol Danvers, also known as Captain Marvel.

According to The Mary Sue, Chris Evans has been very supportive of the potential casting of Brie Larson for the role of Captain Marvel.

It was back in the panel during Wizard World Philadelphia where Chris Evans responded to a question about Brie Larson and the role. The question, being addressed to the entire panel, was instantly answered by Evans as he grabbed his microphone. As it turns out, Evans hopes that Marvel does decide to cast Brie Larson in the role, as the pair worked together in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, just one of several reasons that the Captain America star hopes that Brie Larson is ultimately successful in the role.

In the comic books, Captain Marvel was originally a man. But seeing the recent switch-up in the panels of the Marvel universe, the female version of Captain Marvel rose to fame. Should a film happen that features Captain Marvel, Brie Larson would have the weight of delivering a compelling origin story onto the screen.

The film very likely would involve at least a cameo role by Chris Evans, which would likely be a welcome surprise for Brie, as Captain America was one of the characters who encouraged Carol Danvers to become Captain Marvel in the comics. Brie Larson and the Captain America star already work well together, which is a good sign for the potential casting.

The only drawback to casting Brie Larson for the role seems to be her age, as she otherwise fits the personality of Danvers perfectly. In the comics, Carol Danvers is usually seen to be in her mid-30s, and with Larson being only 26-years-old, this may potentially be what is holding the studio back from finalizing the casting. Should Brie Larson be cast in the role, she would officially become the youngest actress in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Scarlett Johansson being 31-years-old and Elizabeth Olsen being 27-years-old. She would also become the youngest actress to play a superhero, as she is even younger than Melissa Benoist who plays the television role of Supergirl.

Although Brie Larson is still in her mid-20s, there is no reason that she would not be able to convincingly portray an older character on screen. She is, after all, an Oscar-winning actress after securing the award earlier this year for her role in Room.

Even without the Marvel role, Larson still has a lot of great things coming her way. For one, she has her upcoming wedding to plan and look forward to, after becoming engaged in March this year. According to the Daily Mail, Brie Larson and her fiancé, Alex Greenwald, were recently spotted backpacking out of Montreal.

Larson got engaged to her boyfriend just a month after winning the Oscar for her lead role in Room in February, making the first few months of this year certainly a memorable time for the talented actress. Brie’s fiance, the lead singer of Phantom Planet, who also attended the Oscars as her guest, popped the question to Brie while they were on holiday in Tokyo in March.

News of her engagement was only made public after the actress showed off her sparkling engagement ring during her appearance on Saturday Night Live. Brie Larson and Alex Greenwald have been together for over two years and Brie describes him as her best friend.

Brie Larson is currently in Montreal filming The Glass Castle, alongside Naomi Watts and Woody Harrelson.
