Maddie Ziegler, Chloe Lukasiak Compete For 2016 Teen Choice Awards Choice Dancer

Dance Moms alums Maddie Ziegler and Chloe Lukasiak are once again competing for the Choice Dancer award in this year’s Teen Choice Awards. In 2015, both were nominated under the same category, with Lukasiak walking away with the TCA surfboard.

According to International Business Times, three out of the six nominees in the Choice Dancer category were ALDC members. Aside from Maddie Ziegler and Chloe Lukasiak, Kalani Hilliker, the only active member of Abby Lee Miller’s dance group, was also nominated. Other nominees were Dancing With the Stars judge Julianne Hough, Derek Hough, and ballerina Misty Copeland.

Ziegler, Lukasiak, and Hilliker all took to Twitter and Instagram, encouraging their fans to vote for them in the Teen Choice Awards. Those who want to show their support still have until July 31 to cast their votes through Facebook, Twitter, or via the FOX NOW app.

“You may vote for as many of the active categories as you wish, but you are limited to only one (1) vote per category, per calendar day (based on Pacific Time) and per platform user ID. You may only vote for one Teen Choice nominee per Tweet. New categories will become available throughout the Voting Period.”

Maddie’s sister and fellow Dance Moms alum, Mackenzie Ziegler, was also nominated for the Choice Muser award. She is competing against Baby Ariel, Loren Beech, Kristen Hancher, Ariana Renee, and Jacob Sartorius.

In 2015, Chloe Lukasiak snagged the award for Choice Dancer against Maddie Ziegler. This was quite a win especially since 2015 had been a huge year for Ziegler—starring in Sia’s “Chandelier” music video and appearing on award shows and talk shows.

In her acceptance speech, the Center Stage: On Pointe star cannot help but throw shade at her former coach, Abby Lee Miller. While she did not mention names, she told her fans to ignore those who tell them they are not good enough. Longtime Dance Moms viewers knew that it was a subtle dig at the ALDC coach who always compared her to Ziegler.

During the early seasons of the hit Lifetime series, Miller would often pit the two against each other, to the disappointment of fans. Many also observed that Miller has always been tough on Lukasiak to the point that the 14-year-old, and mom Christi Lukasiak, decided that it would be best if they would just leave the show.

While Lukasiak thanked all of her dance teachers, including Miller, the Dance Moms alum cannot help but throw a not-so-subtle diss towards her former coach.

“I also wanted to say: To anyone who has ever been told that they can’t do it, that they shouldn’t do it, or they aren’t good enough — ignore it. Do it anyways, and prove them wrong.”

After being on Dance Moms for over six years, Maddie Ziegler decided to leave the reality show in February. Speaking to Seventeen magazine, the 13-year-old shared that she felt “so free” soon after.

“Leaving Dance Moms was a hard decision to make, but it was getting too stressful,” she said.

While she does not always get along with the ALDC coach, Ziegler understood that Miller always had her best intention at heart. She knew that Miller wanted her to be a good dancer. The pressure, however, had been just too much for her to handle.

“I feel like I had so much more pressure on me to be the best in the room.”
