Gastonia, North Carolina: Man Stabbed And Robbed While Trying To Change Tire On The Highway

Police in Gastonia, North Carolina, are quite bewildered at an incident that took place on the highway very early on Sunday morning. A man was pulled over to the side of the road and simply trying to change a flat tire on his vehicle when he was stabbed and robbed by an unknown assailant.

According to the Gaston Gazette, 39-year-old Eliu Hernandez Pedroza had pulled over his vehicle to the side of I-85 South in Gastonia early on Sunday morning. The Mount Holly man was pulled over near Exit 19 on the interstate and simply began changing out his flat tire.

As he was walking around and doing the necessary things to change the tire, an unknown assailant came up and stabbed him. The suspect then grabbed Pedroza’s wallet, debit card, and $200 in cash before taking off into the night.

My Fox 8 reported that the stabbing and robbery happened around 1 a.m.

Shortly after that time, Gaston Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived on the scene on I-85 South to tend to Pedroza. The victim was taken by ambulance to the CaroMount Regional Medical Center in Gastonia.

Pedroza suffered a single stab wound to the lower left quadrant of the abdomen during the incident with the suspect. As of Sunday afternoon, there are still no known suspects and no one has yet been arrested.

The status of the victim is currently unknown.

This is just the latest strange and unexpected incident that has happened in a week filled with attempted murder, murder, and other tragedies.

Late on Thursday evening, a sniper fired out in downtown Dallas during a Black Lives Matter rally and ended up killing five police officers. This situation came about just mere days after the police shootings of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge and Philando Castile in Minnesota.

In the days following, ABC 13 reported that there was a man with a revolver standing in the middle of the road on the south side of Houston, Texas. Upon being asked to drop the weapon by two officers and a civilian, the man raised his gun straight into the air and then pointed it at the police officers.

The man ended up being shot and killed on the scene.

On Saturday night, a suspect fired shots at the police headquarters in San Antonio, leaving bullet marks on the building and there were shell casings in an alley. CNN reported that no one was injured during the incident and a suspect was seen fleeing from the scene through the nearby alley.

Police do have a description of the suspect and are currently still investigating this situation, as the backlash due to the recent shootings continues. Many feel as if the country is becoming divided in the way of cops vs. civilians, but crimes are still being committed in ways of civilian vs. civilian.

The violent happenings in the news continue to keep coming, but they just seem to be more prominent than ever.

As the Alton Sterling shooting, the Philando Castile shooting, the Dallas Police shootings, the tragedy at Pulse nightclub, and many other horrific events keep making the news, many smaller situations are being reported as well. The police are still investigating the stabbing and robbery of a man changing his tire on the highway in Gastonia, North Carolina, and authorities are searching for the suspect.
