Tom Cruise has become known for more than Mission Impossible movies in recent years. Cruise also has earned not-so-positive fame for his unusual relationship with his daughter, Suri Cruise, who he reportedly avoids seeing, leaving the parenting role to his ex-wife, Katie Holmes. On Father’s Day, for example, the little girl spent the day with her mother, with Tom nowhere in sight, noted Page Six.
Katie and her daughter lunched with pals at Serafina East Hampton, and Suri enjoyed making a commotion, an observer told Page Six.
“They were there with a woman and two other kids. Suri and her friends were playing, and running around the restaurant,” revealed the eyewitness. “It looked like they were playing tag… Running from table to table, but the customers didn’t mind. They were just laughing and happy running around the patio.”
While Suri was with her mommy, Tom was busy shooting The Mummy. One report claims that Cruise and Suri have been apart for 1,000 days. Several years ago, Tom sued a magazine’s parent corporation for allegations that he had “abandoned” his child from his marriage to Katie.
Some speculate that Scientology plays a role in the situation, according to the Daily Beast.
Katie and Tom were married for five years, with Cruise described as “blindsided” by her decision to file for divorce and get primary custody of Suri. However, Tom subsequently admitted that Holmes feared Scientology, and that emotion played a key role in the breakup.
When Cruise sued Bauer Media about the magazine claims that he had abandoned Suri, at one point attorneys questioned whether Katie had left their marriage “in part to protect Suri from Scientology.”
Tom initially insisted that Holmes had no need to attempt to shield his child from Scientology before conceding.
“There is no reason to protect my daughter from my religion,” Cruise began, then gave in, “Did [Holmes] say that? That was one of my assertions, yes.”
Although that lawsuit was settled, the reports that Tom had not seen his daughter have continued to swirl. Cruise reportedly insists that his packed film schedule accounts for the lack of contact with Suri.
However, some allege that Tom is obeying the Church of Scientology, because church members are not allowed to have close relationships with former Scientologists. The term used is “disconnection,” which refers to cutting ties between an “antagonistic person” and a Scientologist.
Does anyone know the truth other than Cruise? Holmes does, and she’s ready to open up about her “bombshell secrets,” according to a source cited by Hollywood Life.
That source claims that Katie is unhappy with the amount that Tom currently is providing in child support. Consequently, if the actor, who turned 54 on July 3, refuses to boost the payments, Holmes will drop those bombshells.
The 37-year-old actress currently receives $400,000 a year in child support from Cruise, who has not seen his now-10-year-old daughter for over two years. But is Katie so frustrated that she’s willing to go to court over the situation?
“She’s fed up. Some friends say they’re headed back to court, where they would have an explosive showdown,” revealed the source. “And, they say, Katie feels she would triumph.”
The insider cited by Hollywood Life revealed that the “bombshell secrets” Holmes knows include the causes for Cruise’s estrangement from Suri as well as information on his loyalty to Scientology that potentially might “destroy” him.
A representative for Katie, however, told Hollywood Life that the report of an upcoming battle in court is not true.
As to how Tom’s little girl feels? An insider revealed to In Touch that as the years have passed, Cruise has cut down on contact with his daughter.
With more than two years since the two met up in person, Tom has not talked with her over the phone, alleged the insider.
“They used to Skype and text, but that trailed off drastically,” a second source told In Touch. “He uses his film commitments as an excuse, but the truth is that doesn’t hold much weight with Suri anymore.”
