Shonda Rhimes Fires Back At Those Who Blame Black Lives Matter For Dallas Police Shooting

Creator of Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal Shonda Rhimes has spoken up and fired back at those who are blaming the murder of five police officers in Dallas, on Thursday, on the #BlackLivesMatter movement that is sweeping the nation. Rhimes took to Twitter to make her opinion known in regard to the finger-pointing that has ensued due to the murders committed by one individual.

“If I hear one more idiot suggest that #BlackLivesMatter incited this… The level of ignorance is stunning. Just absolutely stunning.”

The shooter, who was identified in the acts committed against the police authorities as Micah Xavier Johnston, is reportedly not linked to the Black Lives Matter protest and movement. He was simply a man who was upset over the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, who were both shot and killed by police officials this week.

Johnson reportedly “wanted to kill white people, especially white officers,” as Dallas Police Chief David Brown relays. The man was killed by officers following his attack, while three other suspects in the shootings remain in custody.

To solidify the fact that those who are behind the Black Lives Matter movement had nothing to do with the shootings that took the lives of the police officers, words by those involved in the movement spoke of the killings by Johnson as a “tragedy.” Entertainment Weekly relays the words shared by representatives in a statement.

“[The Dallas murders are] a tragedy — both for those who have been impacted by yesterday’s attack and for our democracy. There are some who would use these events to stifle a movement for change and quicken the demise of a vibrant discourse on the human rights of Black Americans. We should reject all of this. Black activists have raised the call for an end to violence, not an escalation of it. Yesterday’s attack was the result of the actions of a lone gunman. To assign the actions of one person to an entire movement is dangerous and irresponsible. We continue our efforts to bring about a better world for all of us.”

As has been the topic of conversation regularly as of late, since so many tragic acts involving deaths by gunfire have resulted, Shonda Rhimes relayed her view that the focus should be on gun control and amending the current laws to keep incidents like that which Johnson is responsible for from occurring.

“Why isn’t anyone talking about gun control? Last night, a man with a high powered rifle committed a mass shooting. Again. GUN CONTROL. Words don’t get people killed. GUNS get people killed. BLM deeds equal intelligent discourse. Guns equal violence.”

Rhimes is one of a number of celebrities who have spoken out about the violence that has ensued this week. Other celebrities to share opinions about the acts include Beyoncé, Jay Z, and Kim Kardashian.

Earlier this week, Shonda Rhimes found herself being pleaded with by specific Grey’s Anatomy fans to fire Jesse Williams for his speech that aimed to make a stand against racism while at the BET Awards last weekend. A woman by the name of Erin Smith began a petition to see the star fired from the popular program, stating that if it were a white person making similar statements about the white race, they would be dismissed.

A second petition was then started, pleading with Rhimes not to fire Williams, and this petition resulted in 20,000 signatures. Shonda simply dismissed the attempts by both sides, noting over Twitter that no petition is needed. Jesse Williams clearly isn’t going anywhere and Rhimes backs him 100 percent, as Digital Spy shares.

“Um, people? Boo don’t need a petition”
