Miami Children’s Hospital: Bomb Threats And Active Shooter Reported [Breaking/Video]

A Miami children’s hospital is reportedly dealing with an active shooter situation and bomb threats on Friday. According to an RT report, the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital was assailed by an active shooter, and the Miami-Dade Police Department was forced to block access to the hospital at at least one of the Miami children’s hospital’s entrances.

Police and emergency personnel reportedly responded to the children’s hospital at 3:30 p.m. local time on Friday afternoon.

Later in the afternoon, despite the police presence that included police diverting traffic away from the Miami children’s hospital, local news outlets reported that no actual shooting happened on the hospital campus. CBS Miami reports that local authorities didn’t find a shooter or bombs inside or around the Miami children’s hospital, but that they had (at least partially) evacuated the only hospital in Miami reserved exclusively for child patients.

There has been a large amount of confusion on social media regarding the precise details of the shooting, with some people wondering how an “active shooter” situation can be confirmed by police and later have it be reported that there was no shooter or shots fired at the Miami children’s hospital.

Miami-Dade police have reportedly told the media that the scenario is being investigated, but they have declined to further elaborate on the matter. At least one hospital staffer has also reportedly told the media that there were no shots fired at the hospital.

Local police have reportedly said that the partial evacuation of the Miami children’s hospital, which has a staff of nearly 800 people, was precautionary.

The children’s hospital has not responded to requests for further comment on the reports of an active shooter and bomb threats at the Miami facility.

The reports of an active shooter situation at the Miami children’s hospital come in the midst of a slew of gun violence in the United States, reports RT. In the last two days, protests and deadly violence have broken out in response to a string of deadly police shootings that were (at least in part) caught on tape. Black Lives Matter protesters have gathered by the thousands in major U.S. cities to protest police brutality and the targeting and profiling of minorities by U.S. police officers.

Overnight, the anger and oppression of the protesters boiled over in Dallas, Texas. It was there that officers patrolling a Black Lives Matter protest were actively pursued and shot at by a sniper. Five officers lost their lives in that event, and several more were injured. The shooter in that incident, which took place less than 24 hours before the current Miami children’s hospital lockdown, has been identified as Micah Xavier Johnson, reports NBC News.

The Dallas shooter also reportedly served in the U.S. Army Reserves for six years ending in 2015, and even did a tour of duty in Afghanistan, authorities have confirmed. The 25-year-old shooter was reportedly employed as an aide for mentally challenged individuals before the mass shooting of Dallas police officers overnight. According to the shooter’s aunt, she believes her nephew “wanted to kill white people.”

She says that Johnson, who went on a rampage just hours before the Miami children’s hospital active shooter situation was reported, had been driven to violence because of the recent rash of killings of black men at the hands of police officers.

“I think a person can only take so much. It should not have happened. Nobody wants to see that kind of tragedy.”

Following the shooting in Dallas, officers in Missouri, Georgia, and Tennessee have also reportedly been targeted by individuals violently protesting the recent rash of officer-involved shootings.

While the official details of the reported Miami Children’s hospital active shooter situation are currently very sparse, reports are coming in on social media that there is a shooter, and that children have been shot.
