Joss Whedon Discusses ‘The Avengers 2’

The Avengers was probably the stand-out hit of the summer. It toppled both Batman’s last adventures and the new look Peter Parker, and it has now gone on to earn over $1.5 billion around the world, making it the third largest grossing movie ever. I think we can all deem that a success.

Both critics and fans alike were busting out their thesaurus’ as they looked for new ways to describe their love and adulation for Joss Whedon’s epic. And now with the Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Cabin In The Woods writer having confirmed his return to the series, we can get mightily excited about the comeback of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, and the rest of their buddies.

Whedon is already hard at work on the script for the sequel, and he has been hinting at what might in store for our favorite gaggle of super powered freaks, without giving too much away in the process.

“The creation of the team is not the happy ending,” he said. “It is the beginning of something that is complex and difficult, and now I get to dig a little deeper. And maybe, while I’m digging, just twist the knife. And that’s exciting for me.”

Wowzer. Seems like the filmmaker isn’t going to pull any punches. What could he mean by “twist the knife”? Is he going to kill someone off? Or does it mean introducing a ridiculous new threat that we can’t even fathom? Only time will tell.

The Avengers 2 is set to be with us in the summer of 2015, which seems like an excruciatingly long time away.
